Ls overflow tank

For those of you that have done an ls in your truck, is there a need for a rad overflow tank? Pretty tight for space already

I just routed a tube down to dump onto the ground if it ever does overflow.

Re: Ls overflow tank

the bigger the top tank is on the rad then the more capacity the rad has to store the pressure built inside the rad. the cap will blow off at the same pressure no matter what rad but if the tank is bigger it will take longer to build that pressure. sorta like an air compressor with a small tank vs a large tank. the reason for an overflow res is so the rad can recapture the fluid lost when the cap dumps. then when the coolant cools off and contracts the cap allows the difference in pressure in the rad, now a negative, to "suck" coolant back from the overflow tank.make sure to use a rad cap with the dual seals if you use an overflow tank. there needs to be a gasket against the top of the rad neck, like any vehicle that uses an overflow tank would have.
I would say install one personally. it can be in front of the rad even, just as long as you have access to it.

Re: Ls overflow tank

after thinking some more about it , you could do a recess into the inner fender to mount a tank..just make sure it will clear the tire when turning..
