Rotor swap question

Does anybody know if there is a direct bolt on 6 stud rotor that I could buy to replace the original 5 stud ones that come on a 1972 chev 1/2 ton?
Something that I could order at a parts store instead of LMC etc.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Rotor swap question

Subscribed! I found a donor 71 with disc brakes to swap to my 67 but i was wanting to keep it 6 lug. So maybe it is possible to install the 71 crossmember and brakes and keep it 6 lug? I can get the 71 pretty cheap!

Re: Rotor swap question

I would think you could use a 71/72 4x4 rotor, as they are 6 lug. Just need to verify if they are also 1 1/4" thickness.

Re: Rotor swap question

I also know where i can get a 72 k10 complete for $650. Chasis, motor, tranny, transfer case, front & rear axle is all good. Body is shot but everything is still there.

Re: Rotor swap question

I don't think 4x4 rotors will work leddzepp b/c the use axles and the 2wd rotors ride on spindles.
Ol 67 C10...are those 6 stud rotors on the 71 factory or swapped into it? If they are factory, I should just be able to buy them at a NAPA or anywhere local.
Provided the spindles are the same size.

Re: Rotor swap question

I've never seen rotors with studs on them all the ones I've had the studs were on the hubs not the rotors

Re: Rotor swap question

Sorry for the confusion, what i meant to say is that the 71 is 5 lug original. I wanted to swap the front crossmember and disc brakes over to my 67 but I want to keep my 67 a 6 lug. I was wondering if I could just get 6 lug rotors to put on the 71 spindles? Does that make any since? Thanks!

I figured there was a reason they would not work

Re: Rotor swap question

Several companies offer 6 lug conversion disc brake setups. I would imagine you could buy the rotors from them.

One nice thing about doing the conversion on an older truck is if your ball joints and tire rod ends and center link are all good, no need to replace.

If you do the junkyard swap, you need to swap all that stuff.

Re: Rotor swap question

Yes, you can buy 6 stud rotors for our trucks, but so far I can only find them from US distributors like LMC or Classic Ind.....being in Canada, the shipping, duties etc. make the cost ridiculous. That's why I'm wondering if there is a direct fit from a certain year/model truck. Was it possible to get the disc brake option in the late 60's/early 70's trucks BEFORE they went to 5 stud?

Re: Rotor swap question

I'm sure there is a direct, off the shelf rotor that will work. I don't imagine LMC, etc have them custom made. It's probably a big secret though, because if you could buy it locally then you would not be buying from them.

That's what I was hoping. I assume if there is, there would be someone on this site that would know.

Re: Rotor swap question

Performance Online sells them for $90 a rotor. There was some talk here recently that an early 90's c-20 light duty 6 lug rotor may work. I don't know if anyone ever confirmed this.

That's a great price for a pair of rotors.

Re: Rotor swap question

$90 a rotor quickly turns to $300+ when you live in the great white north. CPP's price was fair too...it's just the shipping, duties, exchange rate etc that puts the screws to me.

Re: Rotor swap question

Looking at same option for my 67. You can change front crossmember Assy all the way up to 87, but for new rotors you will have to order to stay 6 lug and you need to make sure donor has 1 1/4 inch wide rotors or you will not be able to keep six lug option open.

Re: Rotor swap question

This question comes quite often and no one has ever confirmed any vato zone or o reillys rotor is adirect replacement. It seems logical to think so and when i worked at a o reillys i mic'ed a bunch of possabilities but i never found anything thay could ride the spindles correctly. So until a "eureka!!" Is found were going to have to use our reliable vendors
