66C10 outer rocker to inner rocker gap at weatherstripping flange

Do any of the more experienced builders know if it matters if the gap between the inner rocker and the outer rocker weatherstripping flange is a smaller gap than the original? (I am new to building these trucks. btw). The original gap was about 1/2 inch but the new gap is about 1/4 inch. The Counterpart parts have quite a few minor differences when comparing to the original for example the weatherstripping flange on the original was very vertical while on the Counterpart it is on a slight angle (sloping about 25 degrees toward the inner rocker, so thinking that if it is an issue I could always bend the flange more vertical after welding if needed. (I will of course trial fit the door and front fender as well before welding the outer rocker.) Picture below of the rocker trial fitted to approximate gap.
(I have started a build thread as well with more pictures)

.......by experinced I was thinking anyone who has welded inner and outer rockers. (This is the first time for me). Is 1/4 inch gap typically adequate for installing the weather stripping (if everything else lines up ok, that is)

Completed same repair. That flange is for weather stripping to attach to. When you close the door it should seal tight.
One of the many little things I had to redo on my project.
Good luck.

Can you test fit the door before anymore welding. As long as the door, with weather stripping seals you should be good.

Thanks Bomp and Mike. Yes, I will definitely be test fitting the door and fender before welding to make sure it lines up and fits properly. The main thing I was wondering about was whether 1/4 inch gap is too small for the weather stripping to fit properly (I don't have a piece of the weather stripping on hand to test it with).

1/4" is going to be very tight. You really should have the weather stripping your going to use now. On my crew cab we are using the new style precision push on seals. They fit so tight we had to bend back most of the pinch welds along the inside of the door jamb. A little more gap is better because you can always pull the pinch weld forward a bit to meet the door bottom.

Ok You can See here we had to cut the lip off and modify. It's a fine line of leaving enough gap in the front for the gasket to compress and seal and fit in the pocket that the sill plate will cover. Also make sure to check the angle you are placing the rocker as that will also open or close the gap where the weather strip hits at the bottom.

Thanks, Chizzler, for the pics and the things to watch out for. I will have to check carefully when I test fit the door. (the weatherstripping that most available to me is the Counterpart brand. Hopefully this brand works well)

The original style is going to be a bit smaller and glue on. It is important to not fully weld it in place until the door is back on and you can shut it and check the gap at the bottom. Let's se some more of that truck.

Re: 66C10 outer rocker to inner rocker gap at weatherstripping flange

I ordered one side of the Counterpart brand of the door weather stripping (windlace). This Counterpart brand is very wimpy (thin) and not very dense rubber compared to OE. I may consider that Precision brand press-on type.
