Gauge cluster light problem

I have an 2002 Chevy Truck, 5.3 Z71 with 70K miles and the instrument cluster lights have started to go out. Also, if I have to change the cluster, I would like to install a cluster with the trans temp gauge. Will this work for app? Not sure if the wiring already exists for a trans temp.

Hi Dave,

The wiring is already there and the new cluster (if you go with one) is going to be a plug and play. The catch is the mileage will have to be reprogrammed to match what you currently have.

Another option is to swap the parts from the trans temp cluster to your exciting cluster and replace all of the bulbs while you have it apart. This way you don't have to have mileage reprogrammed.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need me.

Take care,
Tom

Re: Gauge cluster light problem

Thanks for the input Tom. Wasn't sure if the wiring was there or not to operate the trans temp gauge.
Thanks Dave.

I worked on these at GM Proving ground 1999 - 2004 and we were always swapping clusters from non trans temp to trans temp style with no issues.

Let me know how it works out for you Dave and have a great holiday.

Taker care,
Tom

Re: Gauge cluster light problem

I just built an Avalanche that was an 03 now I know that NONE of the wiring or electronics from the 99-02 to 03 and 03 and up were the same. But I did put a 2500 cluster in that av and the trans temp gauge functioned as it should. I haven't run into many problems with the 02 and back clusters it is mainly 03 to 07. If they have not failed yet they will. Luckily I have found a guy that rebuilds for $65 with the shipping included. JimI
