Wheel Backspacing Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am looking at wheels for my 53 and would like some backspacing recommendations. TCI Mustang II front end and Ford exploder 8.8 in the back, air all the way around. I am thinking about 20x8 Mob Steel wheels. Anyone running this same rearend and TCI frontend give advice on wheels?

I think the reason for no response is not enough info. The MII front end can be anywhere from 56" to 58" wide, which would make a difference in backspace. Don't know the width of the exploder axle. Would need mounting surface to mounting surface distance. Bed on AD pickup is 50" wide, if not tubbing the bed this will leave you with less overall length to work with. Give us some more info, maybe someone will chime in. Good luck...Jim

You are going to have to do some measuring. Maybe this calculator will help:

Measure the width between the fenders. Explorer 8.8 rear is 59.5" wide. Play with the backspace and tire size until you find what fits.

I also know Blake from stoners speed shop uses ford rear and mustang with 4.5.

I will do a little measuring as soon as I can get back over to the garage. The front is what I am most worried about. I have seen some guys on here in past running tci mustang II with air. Hoping one of those guy may chime in. Not sure how tight 20x8s would be under the front. 74 are running that in front also?. I appreciate your help guys.

Yea mine is a tci rolling chassis on air..

Are those wheels as heavy as they look? They sure look great! What center are you going with.

Dome shape center and they are not heavy...an ls will have no problem with em..I'm powdercoating them the original green color.

Shipping one wheel says 45 lbs. So 42 to 44 lbs each wheel?

I will probably go with good ol black with either spider caps or baby moons. Truck will be burnt orange. I wish mine had decent patina, it would have been cleared. I looked at your build page, your patina looks great. Is it staying? Or getting painted?
