Hurricane Sally

Mongo and all you guys in Miss and 'bama batten down the hatches. Sally is coming in tonight. Pretty active h'cane season this year. This year could change some folks minds about living on the coast.

Re: Hurricane Sally

I hope this one isn't too bad. Be safe everyone in it's path. This sure came up fast. Looks like it's slow moving, a lot of rain

I haven't been watching tv or weather online for a couple weeks. but it's already up to Sally? How many storms have there been in the last couple weeks? How are we on "S" already?

I just looked up "hurricane and tropical storm names 2020" and see there are five Atlantic storms at once and one of them is Teddy and the other Vicky. Apparently for some fool reason they don't use all the letters in the alphabet. But so far the only letters skipped have been "Q" and "U". Then there is no X,Y, or Z. I always wonder if we'll run out of names in years when storms seem to start early and come often. But I figured that would be over 26 storms. I had a feeling we'd run out of names this year, but five storms before the alphabet got used up. Only Wilfred remains and then we go to Greek Letters. It happened in '05, the year of Katrina. You'd think they would have learned something back then. So after 21 storms we end up with number I. I never went to college to get that stupid

Re: Hurricane Sally

It's getting worse, but we have survived before. Looks like now it will be possibly around MS/AL border. Bad part is it will be sitting till Wednesday morning churning up hurricane force winds over the entire MS/AL/FL coast.

If ya don't hear from me after tomorrow, means no power, which stinks since that means No AC.

Everyone take care and don't take it lightly. Be safe ya'll!

Re: Hurricane Sally

I don't understand how they name the storms either. They retire names too. With this one moving so slow I hear it can build more energy. Right now it's moving at 5 mph with 100 mph winds. It may produce more of a storm surge. They are talking 7-11 ft surge.
I am really surprised they didn't see the 20 ft surge with Laura being it hit the coast with 150 mph winds. Or if it did it happened in sparsely populated areas.
I was also real surprised to hear the gulf water was 87* when Laura came in.
Bill I bet you are well prepared with your survival packs, batteries, generators, food and gas. It's an awful time to be without AC.

Re: Hurricane Sally

thanks Boog...luckily I'm far enough north that we don't get the worst part of the hurricanes..we deal with the wind and rain from them though...
but we make up for it with the tornadoes..
it was looking like it was going up my east side..then it looks like itll be on my west....
now they showing going back to the east..

Re: Hurricane Sally

I'm in Mobile, looks like this thing made that NW turn they was talking about, with a more northerly turn later. Which will likely put us on the strong side at landfall. Palf and all other coastal neighbors stay safe.

Hart_Rod is in Pensacola. I hope it went well with him.

My sister has a place on Perdido Beach. I don't think it faired too well. Luckily they were here.

I haven't been to CTC in a couple of years. Are there RV sites along Beach BLVD?

Perdido had gusts up to 85 mph and lots of flooding. I hope your sister's place withstood the storm.

Re: Hurricane Sally

It's been a steady rain here in Milledgeville, GA for most of the day. Nothing compared to the coast, but we are getting some of the outer bands of the storm

Re: Hurricane Sally

Been keeping you all in my thoughts through the last few days. Hope you all and your loved ones are safe.

Old friend from work lives in Saraland (forgive me as I have no idea where in AL that is) sent some pics of an large uprooted tree of some sort that landed on his house with another blow down laying next to it.

He was "Hangin' in there like a loose tooth" as he put it.

Looked as if they got a bunch of rain and obviously wind. Hope you all are riding it out ok and damages are minimal if any.

Re: Hurricane Sally

Saraland is just a few minutes north of Mobile...I've seen some pics from down there..
they say it was as bad as Ivan..and hit on the same day as Ivan in 04
My aunt lost 3 beach houses to Ivan..
What they had predicted for our area never happened..

Re: Hurricane Sally

We have a friend that just moved to a brand new house outside of Pensacola. Tons of rain, and pretty good wind, the bridge to their area got hurt. They had a small leak in a closet. Their power came back on this morning. Pretty rowdy, but they came out ok.

There is few in Gulfport and Biloxi, just not sure if they have all been reserved or not. There is probably some westward in Long Beach, Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis, but I just don't get down there much except during CTC and I spend most of my time looking at cars and not home fronts.
