Door Locks

Hey, I haven't been on here for a while, and it won't let me search. But I have 72 GMC Sierra Grande, the door locks have never worked for anything since I've had it (7 years) What pieces will I need to replace the whole things, I'm changing the ignition switch anyway so I might as well get the matching keys. Thanks for any help.

What do mean "never worked for anything"? Will they lock from the inside? Will they lock with the key? If so they are perfect...lol. The lock cylinders with matching cylinder for the ignition are easy to get, any vendor on this board will have them...but if the doors won't lock at all the problem will be in the latch. Most of the time lubrication will fix it. If not you could maybe find some used ones on the parts board

Guess I should clarify, the don't lock from the inside or the out. So, should I take the door apart and grease up the latch and make sure it doesn't need replacing. Any ballpark figure on how much a latch would be?

I have always had good luck taking the door latch/lock mechanism apart, cleaning it with brake cleaner, lubing it with a lithium type grease and reinstalling it. After a good taking apart cleaning geasing and fiddling with they seem to work much better.

having problems, too.

my passenger door won't lock at all. the lock will engage correctly when the door is open, but won't engage enough to work when door is closed. i took a look inside and it looks as if the lock cylinder on the door won't let the lock go all the way down when the door is closed.

any help out there?

thanks.

hank, maybe the latch plate is adjusted too tight and not allowing the lock to turn quite far enough. You might try pushing on the door after it is shut to see if it will "click".
