hey guys anyone here have a homemade steering wheel? how about some ideas for me? where i work we have small riveters with aluminum flywheels about 15 inches in diameter. i turned one down on a lathe and drilled 8 big holes in it to match my rims but im not sure if i will like it. what other designs would look good?

Have you seen those clear arclic(sp) steering wheel's?? How a bout a pic of what you designed.

A note about the vice grips....they aren't exactly the best tool for driving a car, but it can be done....not that I would personally know though :x

never seen the acrylic ones no but i bet they look cool. different atleast. i will get a pic as soon as mine is done. still have to mill the holes/ finish sanding and polish it

I HAVE USED VISE GRIPS TO STEER A CAR ONLY FOR A TEST DRIVE BUT O WELL

I tried to spin out an old Monza I used to have in a gravel parking lot with the vice grip steering wheel too.
I blew the engine up before I lost control.
Best $35 I ever spent. I was almost ready for a small block when i had to ship out for basic training and the apt manager wasn't too fond of the heap just sitting...
Oh well, I was only out 35 bucks and a nice tool.

I cant say I have ever used "vice bites" for a steering wheel.......i have welded a couple sets to my truck tho....(its a blind old man deal:p ). Called striking the arc in the wrong spot

I remember my older brother and his friends using visegrips on a few of their units back in the 60's, can you imagine how bad you got to abuse your car in the 60's when they were almost indistructable, to have to use visegrips on the wheel, i could never figure that one out
