C30 Gear Question

Looking at a 1964 C30 with 283 V8 and 4 speed. I know diff gears can alter this too...

What is the average top/cruising speed for a truck like this? Just curious before I get too into this rig.

Re: C30 Gear Question

My '62 has a 283 and 5.14 gears and I made two 400-500 mile road trips in it, 55 mph was about top speed.

Re: C30 Gear Question

May have the optional 4.57 ratio and somebody may have swapped in a 4.10. These are the only three ratios it can have if it still has the ho72 rear. Only way to tell for sure is to jack up the rear, spin it and do the math. No matter what you are still looking at a top speed of 60 at best, which is really as fast as you want to go in one of these trucks.

Re: C30 Gear Question

Thanks guys. Looking at getting another truck and this one caught my eye. Main concern is to do 55-60. Not sure if I'll end up buying it... going to do some more searching around for a bit.
