Cutting a coil - question

I am thinking of cutting one coil off my springs to get 2" of drop. One question I have - do I need to "flatten" out the coil again after cutting it? The stock coil has the pigtail at the top, and the bottom of the coil is flattened out where it sits in the bottom control arm.

From what I read, it doesnt sound like people are flattening the bottom coil out after cutting one coil off. That sound right? Any issue with doing so? Seems to me that it would put all the pressure on one point of the coil pocket vs spreading it out.

PRobably overthinking this - but let me know what you are all doing - just cutting a coil off and running it without issue, or are you heating it and bending it flat after cutting?

I just cut one coil and stuck it back in....

Hmm. About to do this myself and haven't cut coils on one of these before. So mongo, did you cut a coil off of the top or the bottom before you put them back in?

cut the bottom....and I think I may have heated the last inch or so where I cut it and bent it down to touch the coil above....just so its sit flatter.....been a while since I did it and my rememberer don't work like it used to

I always just cut the bottom (where it goes in the a-arm) and reinstall it. Never had an issue with them. Its hard to get them to seat if you do less or more than one coil though.

I ended up just cutting a loop off and sticking it back in, sounds like thats what everyone is doing and its working fine!
