85 GMC S15 Sierra, New to me!!

I saw a ad on craigslist for this S15 that had no spark, but has a new coil. I asked if the distributor was turning, and was pleased to hear a "yep". I went down to see it with $500 and a new ignition control module. The seller showed me it would'nt start, and me and the mobile mechanic I took with me saw the injectors weren't firing

Changed the module and drove it home

2.5L TBI, 4 speed, shortbed, manual brakes and steering, add in A/C, and included a camper shell and 10+ bumper stickers. I have cleaned it up some for you guys.

sounds like a good plan...i like the dog dishes myself, especially if you stick with an original look ....but if you decide not to use them & want to sell them, i know some guys over on s10forum.com have been searching for them

That's a good looking little truck. I may be a little biased though.

what was the look on the previous owners face when it fired up? I bet felt like a retard for that mistake. Even new parts can be bad...lol

He threw his hands up in disgust! he let the little truck sit for about a year because he didn't know how to fix it/what was wrong.

Re: 85 GMC S15 Sierra, New to me!!

I did pretty much the same thing with a 94 Camaro. They guy kept having overheating issues with it and was asking $600. He thought it was the a head gasket, so I went and checked it out. No water in the oil, didn't miss while running. I noticed that the fans wasn't kicking on when they should. I pulled out $300 and offered it to him. Took it home, put a new temp relay switch in and started driving it the same day. In fact, 3 hours later I pulled up to the gas station to put gas in it. He was at the pump on the other side, he was not pleased when I told him what the problem was after he ask me. I had a big grin on my face though...lol

Re: 85 GMC S15 Sierra, New to me!!

Similar story from Michigan...

Just picked up an 87 2.5-4 speed short box, no spark. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil and ignition control module. I wasn't so lucky that the distributor wasn't spinning, nor the cam.

thanks to eBay I found a $60 aluminum cam gear set and about a month of tinkering here and there it's driving well. I'm in it for $460 now and it'll be a good little gas saver compared to my 8 mile per gallon daily drivers!

moral of the story - swapping cam gears with the engine or cam in the truck isn't all it's cracked up to be. not much fun there.

Re: 85 GMC S15 Sierra, New to me!!

Awesome buy! Reminds me of a 87 S10 I bought.2.8 v6 5spd. I was looking for something to my 350 in. Saw in local trade paper. s10 blown motor. Perfect. Went to look at it. body good shape, didn't care about the motor. owner said he had a mechanic look at it, said timing had jumped. so on and so forth. paid him 350 he was asking. towed it home and parked it until I could do my motor swap.
Well one night my DD broke on me, needing something fast. I decided to see about fixing the s10's motor. got started it ,sounded terrible, missing, popping. Got to looking further. #1 sparkplug had blew out of the head. put it back in, started it back up. ran smooth, drove it to work next day. gave it a tune-up the next day and drove it until I was offered a price I couldn't refuse.

Re: 85 GMC S15 Sierra, New to me!!

Every time I see a thread like this it reminds me how old I'm getting. When I was in high school the clean 1st gen S10's were EVERYWHERE! Now that they're 30+ years old it's getting pretty hard to find a clean example like that. GOOD JOB!
