Try’s to start but dies????

2002 Silverado 5.3L vortec. Fires up then dies flat. Changed fuel filter when it done this before and ran good. So thought that was it. Drive it for about 3 mo this and done it agian. Now I checked fuel pressure and key on pump running but not engine. Fuel rail has 50 or so lbs. so I ordered a new pump waiting on it. But wanted to reach out and see if there is other things I need to check. I think the pump should be putting out at least 60 at dead moto right

Re: Try’s to start but dies????

This could a security system issue...try this...

Turn on the ignition but do not start the engine....leave in this state for 90 seconds, then start the truck....the security system needs to be reset this way after a battery has been replaced or disconnected...

If still failing...

Check in this order...

IAC Idle Air Controller...if its failed, the truck will start then shut off as the IAC closes off all air.

Fuel pressure..ign on, engine not running...should be around 57lb...

Fuel pump ground lead on both filler neck and loom...remove the bolt, clean the end of connection and chassis and reattach...

On dash, do you have a "Security Light" lit?
Have you recently worked on the Ignition switch or column?

Let me know how you go
