DS I love snow, I grew up just outside of pittsburgh and miss it terribly, especially when kansas summer turns to late summer and then in december to cool summer.

I had some new property things going on, gotta get HVAC checked and turned on, my wife does not share my cold tolerance. got spray in insulation quotes for the shop, have some wiring to do first though, thinking of adding an insulated ceiling so I have lightly insulated storage space above and then equivalent to R18 insulated space for the shop. lots of time to finger that out.

so today I got back on the bed floor, I remembered I hadnt chased the s10 bed mounts with a tap, of course the first one snapped the tap like a potato chip. yes, my fault for using the drill motor but I swear, it was low speed and the clutch was turned down too. (well it was definitely turned down after)



luckily there was enough thread left to chase all the remaining holes. the yard store had that tap for 5.99, so another one was cheap but the drive would have killed momentum.

the rear still looked really tall, so I got a ratchet strap and pulled the frame down using the rear axle and tightened up all the leaf bolts that were still loose (tighten with the weight on, or a ratchet strap holding it). that worked out great, I hooked up the shocks and I painted the rest of the frame while the bed floor was off




after that I bolted the floor to the frame (bolts went in by hand!) and struggled to remember how tall I made the floor on the last one. 12 inches deep seemed right to me, so I popped some tacks in there just to hold it because I cant test fit the running board with the jack in the way. well, I could with some finagling, but I was running short of son in laws.



dont worry about the gaps on the tubs, leaning the floor on the sides while chasing holes with a tap bent them in slightly, they come back in line with hand pressure.

looks like 12" deep was the number!





so tomorrow (free day!) I will pop the fenders on and finish my cab corner welds, and shorten the gas filler. I hope my welding gas holds out, its on like 100lbs till monday.

thanks to all of you. I wish I had more updates but after my last post my mother in law sold her place and will be our renter in less than a month. so we have been butts and elbows in the new house.

I did score a set of wheels tonight, couldnt pass them up, perfect condition foose outcasts in chrome. they wont be everyones taste but they have a great classic hotrod look. I need a couple tires but whether they end up on this truck or not remains to be seen, maybe the next one.

slow progress, got some time today because it was raining early and I couldnt get the 400sq ft of underlayment for the 41 cases of flooring we picked up yesterday. we made a dump run yesterday too, I should have taken a picture of the flatbed loaded like the clampetts, literally teetering.


I shortened the filler neck, took 4 inches out of the rubber hose and 2.5 out of the metal tube. used a 3" holesaw on the bedside, looks good enough to me.







I also got the cab corners welded up and spritzed with paint.

unfortunately the rain didnt stick around, I will be back on the house tomorrow.

so moms closing date is the 8th and she wants to move straight to the house. gas inspection done, hvac turned on just in time for the chilly weather. the meter is 100ft from the furnace, the pilot knob needed held for 25 min to get gas to it haha.

we did floors last week and plumbing today. the floors were all different heights throughout the house and that just felt lazy so we put in new subfloor so everything was a continuous run, no transition strips. next is trim, that will probably be the 6th.

paid the $1100 water bill left by the previous tenant. save your soapboxing, I tried everything, bargaining, explaining that the loss was incurred in a prior year so should be tabled from the books instead of carried over, thinly veiled threats of withholding ukulele serenades and christmas cookies. in the end, just paid it. thats when we found the freeze damage on the supply line, and a few of the interior lines. my wife is excited to repair the bathroom wall again she had already repaired against my advice because we needed to test the water lines and the shower hookups leaked like a colander.

also throw this in the mix, my daughter had her car on the street at her boyfriends and at 1 am a potentially inebriated girl hit it at 50 mph. this is her second mini in as many years, albeit not her fault this time. we quickly found a replacement and switched the tires over, I told her I was changing 4 tires and she started to go inside, I said I am ONLY changing 4, you are changing the other 4!

tomorrow I am doing more plumbing, I think the PO were some form of sentient concrete block with actual poop for brains, there is literally some repairs done with that stretch tape.

Sucks about the mini...I know all to well you cant have nuthing nice....some jackleg tagged my C30 the other day......all they left me was body/paint damage.....

yeah, my kids have to be present and in coveralls if they want me to help them on their cars. that way they may learn something. the only time the cell phone is allowed is to check a torque spec or a fluid capacity etc. haha.
good thing it was late and she wasn't inside the car. lucky.

mom moved in this past weekend, and has about 200 honey dos.

this plumbing. sheesh.

a "wet wall" is a wall that has most of the main water and sewer lines running down it, you can usually find it because a bathroom/laundry room/kitchen will share a wall either on the same wall or on opposites sides of the same wall. well they wanted a bar so they moved the kitchen sink about 10 feet from the wet wall, no problem right? wrong

they apparently thought drain lines were under pressure, because why not? right? they rain the drain line under the floor joists to the main sewer line and hooked it right to the old sink tee in the main, 7" ABOVE the main. so the WHOOOOLLLE line, about 12 ft, worked like a giant p trap, completely full of water until the sink drain pushed out the standing water to equilibrium. there was a disposal hooked to the kitchen sink too, you can see where this is going, all the ground up solids stayed in the pipe. they could not get pushed through.

so my unlucky idiot doombass self, realizing the drain needed some slope, got to cut that line. about 3 gallons of 4 year old vomit water full of old rotting food squirted and spurted out as I cut it, some in a bucket but most on me. I cut down the tee on the main and cut holes in the joists to give it the right slope to not outrun the solids (1/2" over 10 ft). then I took several showers, burned my clothes including my shoes, and swore off food for a three day fast. YUK.

installed some doors, some lights, and a whole ton of honey dos. today I am "off", except I had to go by and do some sealing and move some furniture and and and. gma is very demanding.

made our deal with the insurance on the mini, somewhat fair anyway. truck work to resume. sorry for the continued distraction.

Ewwww, just ewww. I grew up farming/ranching in Western NE. I have been covered in terrible substances more than once....but, I will take that every single day over doing residential plumbing on the "grey" side.

it may look that way but the style now is high waists and short tops, no crack in that picture my wife bought a shirt the other day without trying it on, it was like a cheryl teigs half shirt when she put it on, suitable for going to the beach wearing over a bikini, but not to the wedding we were going to.

she is the age where we barely see her unless she needs something, so asking her to do plumbing wouldnt produce any result. although let me be clear in case she finds this post years from now, both she and her sister have always pitched in wherever possible.


and now back to everyones favorite dumpster fire show: "COAXING DEAD STUFF BACK TO LIFE". I love bargains and hunting for bargains. so most of the trucks I start with are literally 10s of random parts. cab here, door there, bed over there, you get the idea. I would love to start with something complete but my frugal bone would probably suffer a compound fracture, popping out of my skin wherever the frugal bone resides (probably somewhere around the buttocks). so I spend a lot of time on repairing various parts. for example:

the cab I bought had three hinges, and you can see what happened with a little thought. they removed the passenger upper hinge and broke a bolt, which soured them on removing any more. I had to drill it out carefully, the fine threads of these hinges wont take much shenanigans like a coarse thread would.



afterwards I ran a tap through all the holes to clean them up, if you are needing to know the thread and pitch its a 3/8" 24 . a trio of new bolts in the right size and viola.



normally I would run a lock washer on these but I didnt have them so I will buzz them back out when I run for the door side hardware.

a quick trip to the backyard for the doors and the tires I will use to set ride height, the current tires are staggered and that makes it hard to get a good visual.



the doors had three hinges too, well, two and a half. so same again, get the bolts out and run a tap through them. same size, 3/8 24. I luckily got the lower cover to bend down, there was about 2 cubic yards of dirt inside this door for some reason and the screws were reluctant but the bolts blessedly cracked
