Re: Show us your shop.

the main shop at my place is 4 bays, there is another building perpendicular to it that is another 4 bays but mostly just used for storage of parts and projects. in between them is a large sorta temporary poly tent building.

Re: Show us your shop.

The tent was originally built bout ten years back to paint a bunch of big equipment but now we just keep a 4 post hoist in there and use it for storage across the front. It does have a pretty industrial exhaust fan still, i pulled the hoist out last week and used it to paint the roof on a 52 Grumman though, kinda multi purpose as space is pretty limited. We also have a little blacked out lean to type thing tacked on the back for the sandblast cabinet and the glass beader. you can see way better in the dark so we made it dark for them all the time.

Re: Show us your shop.

first bay of the main shop is the one we paint in, not really a paint booth but we made a plenum at the back with arrester filters that ducts into a 24 inch explosion proof devillbis spray booth fan and there are several banks of explosion proof lights down each side and accross the roof and a heated intake on each side at the oposite end of the booth from the fan. Works pretty good. i was using it for stripping and doing rust repairs on a 70 monte today though for lack of space to work on stuff.

Re: Show us your shop.

second bay of the main shop is where we do most of our general fab work and metal work aswell as filler work and sometimes some prep. it is our other dirty bay as far as grinding and sanding go. it also houses all the electical panels and stuff and is where you acess the booth from when painting and where the little bench for mixing primer and paint or bondo type stuff is. you can also acess the paint storage area behind the booth from here.

Re: Show us your shop.

off the back of the second bay is also a brand new adition we just put on that is seperated by two sliding glass doors to keep dirty areas seperated. once finnished there will be a work bench in there and hopefully all the sheet metal fab stuff since its kinda spread around right now for lack of space. The adition runs two bays wide behind bay 1 and 2.

in behind bays 3 and 4 in line with the other addition is our little machine area/coffee room/office we have a little lathe and a bigger lathe and a milling machine in there and a little table for having coffee and telling lies bout how great we used to be. The two back areas are separated by a bathroom

Re: Show us your shop.

bay 4 is just a clean sanitary parking stall accessible from outside only. it also houses our compressors which also heat this bay. The two compressors both feed into a large stainless boiler tank back in bay 3 that seems to work pretty well at removing and condensing any moisture from the air system.

Re: Show us your shop.

out back we also have another bigger compressor we bought just for sandblasting as th two 5hp comercials were just barely keeping up to the big sandblaster and we were getting water in the lines as a result. and the "beach" where we blast

Re: Show us your shop.

we also have a little city of poly tents out back for extra storage. We really need another adition. i'd like to put a 2 bay wide 2 bay deep big open tall area where the hoist tent is. 9 bays seems like alot when you say it but it really isn't that big, i need more.

Re: Show us your shop.

A lady hired me to make a dump run in my '64. She was emptying out her elderly father's home. Part of the load included these perfectly patina'd old metal cabinets. They had been stored on an old ramshackle porch for who knows how long. I simply brought 'em home and put 'em up as is.

Re: Show us your shop.

AcampoDave, those are indeed cool old metal cabinets. There's no reason
we should admire truck patina without seeing the nifty in shop patina!

Thanks ----- for bringing this thread to the top.

This thread and another called Let's See Your Garage / Workshop !!!, are our
best photo-threads of what we are most proud of…our indoor (and outdoor) play
grounds!! We been strutting’ our stuff, in both threads, for several years
so, again, thanks for rejuvenating one!!

Dave, what kinda other neat stuff did you score?
