L31 with mechanical clutch

Do the new L31 crate engines come drilled and tapped for the clutch cross shaft ball stud?
Thanks!

Re: L31 with mechanical clutch

my 4 bolt main l31 has a hole drilled / tapped just above the oil pressure port above the filter boss area .

the hole goes in to the bell housing cavity .

i think its the right one for mech clutch ? ?

Yes, I put the bracket on and marked the forward hole, don’t go too deep use the bottom end tab and a real short bolt.

Re: L31 with mechanical clutch

It depends on what year truck you are installing the engine in. The '63-'66 trucks require the forward boss for the ball stud for the bellcrank.

Re: L31 with mechanical clutch

My L31 was a take out from a 99 model and accepted a mechanical clutch in my 78 no problem. But I'm pretty sure it attached to the bellhousing not the engine. Been a while so I forget lol.

Re: L31 with mechanical clutch

Yes the square bodies have the clutch ballstud bolted to the side of the bellhousing.
