June 11, 1979: 39 years ago today I walked through the front door at Chevrolet Flint Assembly and the rest is history.

Except for today. Today is not history. Yet....

Congratulations Keith, I know how scary that can be. 39 years ago I moved from northern Virginia to Phoenix Az, but It was not as scary as starting a new job

Been a fairly unique racer the whole time, hasn't it? I'd like to see that car run one day

When I was in high school I wanted to work for GM in design and development until I realized I'd have to move way up north. Changed my mind real fast.

Re: 39 years ago

I've raced at probably 20 or 30 tracks in that timespan. Some of the tracks I've run are attached below.

I try not to head too far east anymore because of the toll roads.

My schedule for this year looks something like:

June 23 & 24: Super Chevy, Martin Mich

July 7 & 8: Super Chevy, Cordova Illinois

July 27 & 28: National Muscle Car Association, Joliet Illinois

August 25 & 26: NMCA Norwalk Ohio

September 22 & 23: NMCA Indy

I was sitting in the body shop of the Wentzville van plant one summer a couple years ago and I thought "...hey! Wait a minute!

"Why did my parents move from SE Missouri to Michigan when there are GM plants here in St Louis?!?"

(lol)

Re: 39 years ago

Those kind of careers and stories are a thing of the past and thats really sad. Im that type of guy to work at one place till I retire, but that has not worked out so far. The most I have done in one stretch is 6 years. None of it was my doing. Either companies were bought or sold or layoff's due to downturn in work. In the end its all good.

Congrats on the 39 year stretch!!

It's obvious to me.

They were trying to get as far away from those cotton fields as possible. I'm surprised your dad didn't sign on with GM Canada.

a long time friend of my dad's was thankfully eligible to retire when they shut down Leeds plant in KC in the 80's

btw, please tell us that you didn't have anything to do with the starter location in the colorado 3.7L I5

You are exactly exactly right.

I told my dad one time, I said: "you know, when I picture heaven I picture 1930's farms..."

He replied "son - 1930's farms are why I'm in Michigan".

Both my mom and my dad picked cotton. My mom is quite small, so when she was a teen my Grandfather told her she didn't have to pick anymore because she couldn't carry enough to make that much difference.

I'm like a stray cat - if they keep feeding me I'll keep coming back.

Nope - not me - nothing to do with the starter on the Colorado.
