gm 14 bolt

hey, i have a 1986 gm 14 bolt and i was wondering if anyone could tell me where the identiification numer is on the axle so i could find out what gear i have.

pretty sure you need to go inside and it says on the ring gear. it'll say something like 41 11 and you would divide that to be 3.73. I Don't think it says on the outside unless theres a tag attached to one of the bolts, but I could be wrong to.

csb#356 is correct there is no "casting #" on the outside indicating the ratio. Just the tag and I may not trust that totally, get inside.
