Question How to swap from the big tripod mirrors to the small car-type ones?

I've got those huge, ugly factory towing mirrors, but want to swap to the small rectangluar ones. My question is: How do I attach the small ones? Do I need to weld a bracket inside the door? Something else?

Truck is a '72 C20.

If your talking about the factory ones, there is a plate that the screw into. Should be fairly available.

I had the big ones too! I welded up all the holes and started all over.
I bought the small round one from Wes and drilled out three holes and bolted it up.
It is a tight fit inside the door but the right lenght of wrench was the ticket. If I had a youngster around they could get the nut on easy.
I can't remember if there was a plate or 3 nuts and a plate?
You can eyeball the spot below the vent window from pic s of other trucks
but even beter find a template from a board member or another truck.
I'm sure Wes has template if you bought from him.

I went from the gawdawful towing mirrors to factory sport type on my Burb. Just three holes and a threaded backing plate. I called a local 67-72 parts shop to get the proper locating measurements (don't have them with me now). The passenger side mirror is further back than the driver's. Someone here should be able to give you the measurements from the front edge of the door to the forward hole for both sides if you want them in the factory locations.
