my shop/barn

when my wife and i bought our property in 97, i told her ''love the barn, will make the house work''

30x50 10 stall horse barn with a 18x50 animal shed attached down one side originally.
gutted the stalls (including up to 5 ft of horse dooky), pressure washed everything and set up shop.
eventually put up walls, knocked down a wall for g-door, stairs, insulation, sheetrock and some new doors.
barn floor is 1.5 inches thick hand poured concrete from the 30s and sloped to a manure trough (now filled in).
a couple of yrs back i tore the roof off the animal shed-turned-carport and poured a slab and made a real garage out of it.
little shed on the front was the milk house with a big cooler for milk cans, now the garden shed.

the garage has 2- 9ft and 1- 16ft doors into it and one 9ft door into the shop/barn from the garage.
the front 20ft of the barn is my workshop, sheetrocked and insulated for working in MI winters.
mid section is for working on vehicles/welding and can be heated, just not cheaply.
last section is for junk/parts (what's the diff?)

8ft ceilings through out, so no hoist in my future unless i cut thru the 2nd floor (which i am debating).
hopefully asphalt parking area will go in this summer if the boss so desires
68 elco is my son's, in storage while he finishes grad school.

LOL I have told my wife when we move that I need a pole barn. I don't care about the house.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

after dealing with too tight gaps on the truck trunk, i decided to pull it off and narrow it.
gaps looked right when i did it but chipped paint after a 100 miles, then major damage when i jacked it on one side.
should be right when it's done, my painter wanted to do all the work, cut me out of the loop on this one
going for a test fit tomorrow, hooray!

took this picture the other day of the tail lights and roll pan
2 running lights, the other 4 are stop and turn.
license plate lights are single led lights stuck into drilled holes.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

Did you just use (2) of the LED license plate bolts? Where did you get them? I'm looking at some stainless steel ones from EBay.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

found the lights on ebay, do a search for 5mm led lights 12v and you will come up with all sorts and colors.
i'm thinking i paid $10 per 100 and only used 4
they fit snugly into a 1/4'' hole, i drilled a couple into my console to light up the window, door and trunk switches.

the lower box is a light too that i have never used

Re: 58 TRUK intro

my son used to say that he was the only kid at school with a half court indoor basket ball

i learned long ago that 1) if it goes upstairs, it usually stays upstairs and 2) eventually everything upstairs ends up in the dumpster.
there is nothing except wood floor and a basketball hoop up there.
the kids used to have parties up there
plus with a 50x50 barn, i still have lots of storage (for junk) and it's a lot easier to load it into the dumpster from downstairs.

the 68 elco is my son's. fixed it up 10 yrs ago when he was in highschool.
hugger orange, it's a 50/50 car, best viewed at 50 ft and 50 mph
original michigan rust bucket.
we put a new motor in it last summer

Re: 58 TRUK intro

I've been working on a radiator cover for truk using fiberglass
I mocked up the core using cardboard and tape and then waxed everything
Did some fg lay up on truk and more after pulling it off
Hope to get some paint on it this week
