Defective wiper switch?

On my 85 silverado, whenever I turn the key to the run position, the wipers cycle 3 times and return to their park position, they also cycle on a rough gravel road. When turned on manually, they work fine on all speeds except intermittent, which doesn't work. I installed a tested wiper motor, but no luck. Bad switch?

Re: Defective wiper switch?

Well 2 hours and $115 and the new switch is in, but the problems still exist, every time the key is turned to the on position the wipers cycle in wash mode, usually 3-4 sweeps, also repeated when driving or at idle. But, attached to the underside of the column is the wiper delay module, more a less a small square box with a heat sink. I gave the module several hard raps with a screw driver handle and everything instantly worked as it should, problems gone. I'm going to pull another module from my parts burb to replace the one on my truck. Hopefully this will save someone else some time and $$$.

Re: Defective wiper switch?

I ran the truck about 30 minutes today, wipers would do 1 sweep on their own about every 5 minutes, so I changed out the delay module with a good used one. I drove the truck about an hour and everything works as it should, finally ready for inspection!

Re: Defective wiper switch?

Do they make these new? My wipers don't work on intermittent and also don't park and I think this is the culprit.
