Looked at this '67 today

-
Had a guy call me out of the blue this morning and ask me if I was interested in buying a '67 Chevy 4x4. I went and looked at it this afternoon. (17 miles from me).. It has quite a bit of rust in the lower cab that has been patched with galvanized sheet metal and the fenders are pretty beat up. Started right up with the jump starter and sounds good. 250 6 cylinder/3 on the tree. He wants $2500 for it. The SPID is pretty beat up because it was missing the glove box door lock so the door has been laying open for quite a while. Looks legit though. Thoughts?

Re: Looked at this '67 today

You left out one key item: 115 or 127 wheelbase? Because I love oddball (6-3speed 4wd ??!!) originals it perks my interest. But the pragmatic side of me sees the missing bed and a truck that really needs alot even to make it a driver. I price trucks like this for what it's worth in parts and kinda go from there. Maybe he will do $1500? Sure would be worth picking up for future options for that $$...........

I like it as is for a tool around truck. Doesn't look like it needs much other than rust repair.

I think it would make a nice truck. Heck the one tow hook has got to be worth a couple hundred!

I would scoop that puppy up even if he wouldn't come down on price at all. Looks like it hasn't been molested like 95% of them I see.

Perfect ranch hand. Just what I need! (and a ranch)

I'd like it better with a 4spd, which I have, a winch, and a good set of mud tires. Then just give 'er the love she needs as she needs it.

That is one of the things you can actually read on the SPID. It is listed as the first entry in the SPID list on '67's. W/ BASE 115

Thanks to all for the comments. I will call him today and talk to him again.... I have all the parts it would need including a complete floor pan & SWB bed.

Grille, hood, doors & upper part of cab are all good.

Leon, that is pretty cool.
Can you read all the SPID well enough to have a copy made?
Flat beds serve a specific purpose for a specific owner. I'd prefer a standard bed. my self. I'm sure a standard bed would sell much better.

The fact it’s an original short bed AND it’s a small window 67 AND you have the goods at home to complete it makes it mighty enticing! That is unless you need to go to projects anonymous like me . (Laughs......)

Asking $2500. - go with $2000.....any vintage running 4X4 gotta be worth it...The pluses...Its close to home, the dash isn't carved out like a thanksgiving turkey, and at that price you can always flip it, if you have buyers remorse....Oh almost forgot....run it through Barrett Jackson for a $20,000 profit !!!

Yes, there's a sellers etiquette that is used by most. You don't ask for what you want, you price it high so you can come down, THEN get your price... Not always the case, though...

I’d buy it for that, you don’t see real swb 67 K10s come up for sale everyday. Especially if you’ve got the parts to put it together already.

Last week you where down sizing your fleet and now your buying!

The truck looks like a good buy even at his asking price. But it never hurts to make a offer to!

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Not really, I can make out a couple of them but that's about it.

You are too observant Andy..... My wife just mentioned the same thing. I told her "Once a truckaholic, always a truckaholic."

Nope. He still has it as far as I know. I went and looked at it again when I had more time. I took my cardboard creeper and a good light with me and WOW, that thing has really been used and abused. It has rust all the way around the trans hump, both rear shock brackets on the frame are broken, the rivets on both rear spring hangers have pulled out of the frame rails and the brackets are twisted. Instead of fixing it right someone just welded a couple of pieces of angle iron inside the frame and welded a piece of angle across from one spring hanger to the other. They didn't even put bolts in them or pull them back over against the frame rails before they welded the angle across it. It has had some serious weight in it at some time in the past.
I will include a few pictures. I hope you can make them out. There are no cab supports at all and on a couple it is metal against metal.

Even though I have everything it needs I don't think I have enough time left in my life to fix this thing. I offered him $1000 for it.
