1962 C10 dealership promo kit

i bought this off eBay and it was a glue bomb lucky they did not paint it. it was all white with a couple of chrome pieces.I took it apart and painted it to make it look stock for the most part. this was the first time I have ever painted wood.

That came out nice. Great job on the wood. I've never seen anything but assembled dealer promos with non-opening hoods,no engine, and all in one factory color. I have seen people paint and detail them. Is this a dealer promo kit or just a model kit for '62?

its a dealer promo from 1962. it has a little more detail than some but nothing compaired to models i would build from today. look on eBay these sell for over $100 in its original form.

Re: 1962 C10 dealership promo kit

It looks like what I know as an AMT model kit,not a dealer promo. Dealer promos were assembled and came in a factory color. Definitely no glue all over the place. Both model kits and promos were made by the same companies from the same molds. If the dealers offered kits,it's something I never knew of before. That's why I asked,if there's something new to learn I'd like to know. I don't want to take from your showing a nicely done model of your truck here. I collect both models and promos. The promos in excellent condition go for $200+. Here are some examples of a '65 promos,a '61 SMP (last year before changing to AMT) kit,and a '63 AMT kit:

Re: 1962 C10 dealership promo kit

it was sold to me as a promo but it did not have that original plain white box so its possible it was an AMT. it does have screws underneath to hold it together it does not need any glue anyplace it looks like some kid just glued the fallen pieces back on and did not use the correct glue. im taking it to the April model competition and then i will see what it will do on eBay.

Re: 1962 C10 dealership promo kit

Seeing the SMP on the kit was a reminder that SMP used to make Chevrolet model kits, until '62 or '63. AMT was the label for non-Chevrolet models. Jo-Han was the maker of Chrysler model kits. Back then, you could buy them with or without engines in the kits, the kits w/engines sold for $1.49, while the ones without engines were $1.39....and they didn't have an opening hood and the chassis' were different.

Just a little something from my damaged brain....
