3/4 to 1/2 ton spindles

hey guys looking for some more help. I'm converting my 3/4 ton 50 gmc to 1/2 ton axles ( rear is done thanks to you guys) can I cheat and pound out my kingpins and slide in 1/2 ton ones? I have the whole axle but thought that would be easier if they spec out the same

Re: 3/4 to 1/2 ton spindles

IF the GMC and Chevy's use the same parts then the king pins are not the same.
I did a 3600series truck years ago & wanted to do the same thing. King pins were different, 1/2ton(3100) are .8660-.8665 using a floating bushing that is 1 5/16x.867-868.
The 3/4ton and up(3600-3800-4100-4400series) king pins measure .9210-.9214 and the bushing are pressed into the steering knuckle which measures 1 17/64x.922-.923.

Re: 3/4 to 1/2 ton spindles

If you have a complete 1/2 ton axle, I would think it would be easier just to swap the entire axle than to swap spindles.

Im doing the same thing to my 52 Chevy 3/4 ton, I had a spare 1/2 ton axle from when I bought the truck and will be swapping the entire thing out soon.

Usually the half ton setup isn't hard to find. It shouldn't be very expensive either. With all the guys doing frame swaps or subframes it shouldn't be hard to find one that is very inexpensive.

Re: 3/4 to 1/2 ton spindles

I measured everything a few months ago and it all looks like it will switch over no problem. I will find out in a few weeks when I switch it out.
