Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Saw this longhorn on another thread, needs to be here for all longhorn fans to appreciate. IMO, 67-72 trucks look great in any configuration, the owner of this longhorn kept it looking the way GM built it. Bravo !

Re: Time for some longhorn love, show pics

Time for this thread to get bumped. I don't think this one has been posted yet. I first saw this truck at Vintage Torque Fest roughly 6 years ago. I saw it again at the MCACN show in Chicago in 2019 and it made an appearance at the Des Moines Goodguys this year. This is one of the nicest Longhorns I have seen. For being an all original type resto, my only complaint is they filled the Longhorn seam. Kind of kills the look IMO. But overall the truck and camper are spotless.

SSTim, if you're still checking in, this is for you.

What would something like this be worth if it was a early 68-1969 modal year truck.

One of my friends tell me it could be like one of them lost Yenko's it be worth in this condition 25K 35K I told him he's nuts. But he said one of 25 and they don't even note it in any logs GM has porto type 1966 Camaro's that where not issued to the public. But GM has them

Remember 1967 was a transgender year all but 1 form of GM car's changed the one car that stayed the same was 1966-67 Nova /

1967 Chevy truck's was all by its self. You can't count the 1967 modal year truck as the same as all the rest of the 1968--72 Chevy trucks cus of the Cab late 1967 where 68 body's.

Remember GM stated that Body change in 1963 where June 1 was suppose to be the next maker of truck modal year.

If you look at the OBDII did not start until june1 1995 OBDI car's are May 31 2005 and below so in the middle of the year GM Ford and Dodge use the middle of the year to change build Date and year.

so my 1968 long horn might be a 1969 But its a early 1969 and a late 68 modal year ya it can drive you nuts
Hopefully you come back on the board. I'd really like to have you post more pics of the trim so we can see if it has been cut or it is like normal trim and folded at the ends etc. I don't think I've seen another bed side tool box on a 1968. I had a 1969 Longhorn with a bed side tool box, so I can't say I'll agree on the no bed side tool boxes until 1970 that was claimed earlier in this thread.

No Longhorn emblems on the bed. Can't tell if the holes are there or maybe a repaint and filled holes? Is this supposed to have lower trim?

BX2 Body Side Mldg-Lwr is not called out on the SPID. so no lower trim.

As I understand it, the Longhorn emblem was hit or miss, I don't remember if it was a plant thing or year of assembly.

My truck is from Fremont. It does not have the Longhorn scripts. I read somewhere here that they weren't installed, in '70. Possibly even in this thread!

Also, the wood in the bed is painted orange.

The bed wood was installed before paint, so the floor was body color.

From the research I have done I think it was a plant thing. Some of the emblems have adhesive backing and no studs and some of the emblems have studs so it is hard to tell. Flint and Janesville for sure did weird things anyway. I'm not sure if we'll ever find a reasoning.

Like Larry said, should have been body color. 90% of the ones I find/see are a dark bare color but that's because the paint was gone from the wood from years of exposure. Most of the ones I find have no wood left.

I've had a couple of 70s with the Longhorn script on them so who knows.

I'll answer 2 Questions here. Not all Longhorn scripts had the pins and they did put them on in 1970. This being an Oshawa truck maybe that was the only plant that put em on in 1970.
