Trans shift selector Shaft .....

I have a 2004r trans that I just installed in my 71 blazer.
While installing the shift linkage I turned the selector clockwise all the way to “park” then i tightened the nut holding everything together. While tightening it
The selector went past “park” clockwise and is now stuck, I cannot turn it back .
Before this I could turn the shaft in either direction.
There is no fluid in the transmission right now.
Is this normal or how in the world can I “unlock” it .
Thanks for any help .

I have pictures but can’t upload them

Should snap back unless the valve is cocked in the bore a little, or the pin that moves the valve rolled out of its groove
