truck wont hold idle

hey guys i was wondering if anyone knows some sort of reset code for these trucks...I've owned my 99 swb silverado (4.8L-manual windows and locks) for a couple years now and it seems every couple months i cant get the truck to hold idle upon starting it... the truck starts up but then immediately shuts off. Usually a couple hours later shes good to go and fires right up...I've had some people tell me its the neutral safety switch so i have to put the truck down into neutral before starting it up...doesn't work...I've also had people tell me it has to do with the Anti Theft system. Has anyone come across this problem?
Thanks in advance

Re: truck wont hold idle

Can you make it run by holding slight pressure on the accel pedal? If so it sounds like the idle air control is carbon'd up and may need replacing. It won't necessarily set dtc. You can remove it and clean the port and tip then reinstall and see if that helps. About $50 iirc.

Re: truck wont hold idle

no it will still not hold idle if i try to give it some gas to keep it going...the security light in the message center usually blinks when this is happening with my truck as well. I doubt its the idle air control just because the truck runs fine otherwise...
