The internet has definitely accelerated how quickly and thoroughly trends spread through the automotive hobby. I'm loving that SBCs are now considered "old school" (approaching flathead and hemi status!) rather than trite.

But why follow someone else's recipe? Maybe it's the difference between heating up fish sticks and fries just to get food on the table vs wanting to give others the experience of an awesome meal? Maybe it's because I favor exploration and discovery over walking the same route daily? I can't say for certain but I promise that seeing a straight eight Buick with custom made injection system and a from-scratch turbo manifold is much more exciting than seeing an LS build with an E-bay turbo kit, even if the LS makes 3X the power.
I'm all for being original, but what I think is unfortunate is guys searching around everywhere to see if anyone has done it first before they proceed, and then if someone did it already, they scrap their idea. That's silly nonsense.

Just do what you like and be who you are... if you are an original thinker than your ideas will de facto be unique. If you have to google it first, you aren't really honoring the spirit of originality.

Re: Why I Don't Follow Trends With My Truck Builds

When I work it's about 6 or seven months at a time and out of state;. I have a lot of engineers hanging around. This gives me plenty of time to come up with crazy ideas. If it doesn't work I'ii try something else. For me it's the journey.
