This floored me today made in USA @autozone

I'm doing my rear brakes and ordered the outer bearing for my ho52. Autozone was the cheapest . I opened the duralast box and this is what was inside.

How much were they, marketed under the Duralast name? That's funny, I'll be following suit shortly

Timken probably got the contract to supply duralast bearings for a few years

Mask the quality brand name with a store brand. The modern business model is a trip.

I've noticed Timken being offered by more vendors lately. Like they are on some incentive. I think my Dana60 seals I just got from Rock Auto are Timken

You might contact Timken about this. Could be a counterfeit bearing. The aircraft industry was having a problem with counterfeit bearings (and probably still is). I'd hate to have my life depend on cheap bearings that go bad mid-flight. If it's just a re-box, that's cool.

what's the timken cup and cone part numbers?

curious what they run from local bearing houses..

applied tech [formerly king bearing]
motion industries
kaman bearing
etc.

good find for local part house!

Re: This floored me today made in USA @autozone

Well, I always knew these big box store brands were just contrived brands, meaning they don't make squat they just put their name on the product. It's better than expected to see a top quality name, but that's no guarantee. I just hope this doesn't mean the top quality brand name has fallen into another modern business model... producing a lower quality line specifically for distributing through big box stores. I seriously doubt that in this case.

Re: This floored me today made in USA @autozone

I only buy Timken bearings and as much as I dislike AutoZone they do have them at good prices. It doesn't surprise me to see the house brand box with a Timken bearing there. I will get them to bring one out next time before I step up. Thanks!

Re: This floored me today made in USA @autozone

I have bought GM wheel bearings at the Chevy dealer 25-30 years ago for one of these trucks and it was stamped "Made In Japan". I think it was BMG
