57 Chevy, 70s axles 4x4

Finally got my 57 Chevy 3600 to my new house. Starting to clean up the frame and paint it. Then brakes/ suspension and all that good stuff. Maybe someone can guide me to finding out exactly how I can figure out what truck years for brakes and suspension to buy? 10 bolt front and 12 rear 4x4 1/2 ton. Anything helps 👍🏻

Re: 57 Chevy, 70s axles 4x4

are you looking for axles to do a 4x4 swap?..or do you have 4x4 axles you need identified?
if your looking for build help/ideas ,then check out old57s build... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=726477
but a 70s front axle is gonna be a dana44 most likely...not a corp 10bolt

Disc front/drum rear? GM axles for certain or Dana front?

Possibly '82 Chevy Blazer.

Re: 57 Chevy, 70s axles 4x4

I agree most likely the 70's 1/2 ton 4x4 axles will be a Dana 44 front and a GM 12 bolt rear. The stock steering had the steering box outside the frame rail in front of the axle. If you're going to be using the drivetrain from the same era - i.e. SBC, TH350 and NP203 transfer case, watch out for clearance with the stock crossmember that goes under the flywheel housing. More than likely the front driveshaft will run smack dab into it. So you will need to do something there. A lot of people use a 70's era Blazer or short wheelbase truck frame and adapt the body (not my preference) although the wheelbases don't match up and will need to be addressed. Spring pads will need to be changed on the axles as well as shock mounts made. Also note the front spring shackles are on the rear of the spring vs on the front as well. Look on ebay and search images on the web and here to find trucks like you're interested in building. You can then see specs on how they did it. I was once going to do this and did some planning for a while as I had the parts but then changed my mind. Good luck.
