17 inch Wheels Tire Size

Okay I have searched the forums and now I need a solid answer so here goes. I bought 17 x 8 Torque Thrust IIs for my 70 stepside. What size tires fits the best. I want all four tires to be the same size so I can rotate.

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

245/45/17 front 255/45/17 back or 265/45/17 in back oh i hate same size tires lol

ok if you HAVE to rotate, then get 245 cause they are the most common size for an 8" wheel

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

If you want the same front and back I would go with either a 255-55R-17 (28" tall) or 255/50R-17's (just under 27" tall). The 55 series would probably look better if you are going with the same size front and back. Goodyear Eagle RSA's are available in a 55 series. Kumho also makes a "summer" tire in that size (There are probably a few others). If you want a 50 series, your selection is much better.

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

Is your truck lowered or stock height? If stock height, the sizes mentioned won't look right. There wouldn't be enough sidewall to fill the fenders. If lowered though, not a problem. I would go with either a 275/50/17(28" tall), 255/60/17(29" tall), or a 275/60/17(30"tall). These sizes will look good lowered or stock height.

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

Thanks! 68 Stepbed do you have any pics you can post of your truck. My truck will be lowered. I already bought everything but I was not sure on the tire size to get the right look with 17s...

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

245/45s are a very nice tire size with a terrific sidewall. I would recommend these.

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

I'm running 275/60/17 . I've lowered the front 3 inches and the back 6+ inches. My actual wheel well height is 30inches for all four corners.

Just a note on the Goodyear RSA Tires. I needed tires a couple of years ago and a buddy of mine had a set of 235/70R15 Goodyear RSA's he had taken off a wrecked cop car ( RSA's are standard equipment on alot of Crown Vic cop cars) and they still had 80/90% tread left. These tires are great on our trucks. They are quiet and the tread is wearing evenly. When I do eventually lower my truck and go to 17's I will be getting Eagle RSA's as well.

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

I will be running 255/50/17 (27" tall) on the front and 275/60/17 (30" tall) on the back (what can i say, i like the rake!). Just don't have wheels yet. Might be ordering some tomorrow if the place has them in stock (American Racing just stopped producing the wheel I want). So I may have pics fairly soon. Oh, and my truck is bagged.

OK, I'll bite... 17x8's all around, Front 255/50R-17, Rear 275/55R-17. Will be switching the rears to a 9.5" wheel and 275/50R-17's soon.

Re: 17 inch Wheels Tire Size

Holy 10 year old thread Batman!

If I had to guess 4 1/2" front 6"-7" rear drop.

My 69 short step has 17x8 with 235 55 17 front and 17x9 with 275 55 17 rear. Leaf spring flip for 7 1/4" drop over the factory HD leafs. Front is ECE disc conversion drop spindles and 2" springs for 4 1/2" drop.
