Semi truck version pickup

Sharing another Flickr member's picture, thought this morphing of the semi truck into a large pickup is really cool!

Re: Semi truck version pickup

Looks to be a 650 series cab and nose. I'd think 4 wheel drive conversion and custom bed.

Those trucks are rather prized by the vintage big truck collectors.

search for the 2014 version of The Great Race and there may be some info in the info on the entered

Two photos of it down the page on this link. http://www.demarey.com/articles/greatestoftheraces/

71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Semi truck version pickup

I blew it uip and can't read it.

What's really frustrating is that it seems that every year they update their website and discard the info on previous races/events. That and I could give a flip about who placed in the 2014 great race marathon in Pittsburgh.

Re: Semi truck version pickup

Neat truck. A bit of searching brings up a page with a few more pictures. That page also lists race results and shows that truck to be a 1952 GMC 630 crewed by "W & S Hermann." Searching from that info brings back this page. which has a beautiful photo of the '52 along with a '59 Fleetside that was entered in the race with it. The 52 is listed as a "52 GMC 5-ton 4x4 Diesel" and there's a link to a photobucket page which also has this photo which shows a VT antique plate. So a little more work brings back this page which has a nice front shot and the following: Bill and Sharon Herrmann, of Arlington, Vermont, guide their 1952 GMC 5-ton pickup—a former military vehicle—past the day five finish line in New Bern, North Carolina. They went on to finish 64th overall and 15th in the Rookie division." Not a bad finish! With this much info it doesn't take long to find a Facebook page and a nice photo which reveals the WWW link on the truck door is just for the Great Race.

Without the stickers:

This truck belongs to my dad. 1958 GMC 550 on mid 70s 1/2 ton 4x4 frame. Dad did all the work himself. It was his after retirement project. He finished it and has been driving it to cruises and a few shows since 2001.
