today i was removing this super nice original carpet from my now work truck to use in another build up and i found this and it looks to have been there a LONG time . i wounder if its a gm original tool from the assembly line days ? she has a hook blade in the end and was retracted . but sadly no money found under the carpet . the box cutter has the initials KK on it .

If the initials were KS, I would say you just found Keith Seymour's box cutter!! Cool find, I would say it's been there since the assembly line.

I actually found this full thing of Vintage ZigZag rolling papers hidden under the dash of a 1957 BelAir I was taking apart.

I suspect not.

Doesn't look like GM issue; plus - all of the carpet is pre-cut so there is no cutting or trimming as it goes into the vehicle.

Don't have a picture, but when we put new carpet in one of my son's '70 Dart, we found a sandwich in a #8 brown paper lunch bag. No idea what the contents were besides bread. That must have been pretty nasty for a few weeks.

When I worked for a dealer in the 70s we had a Camaro come back about a week after it was sold with a mysterious clunk in the door. I took off the door panel and found an empty whiskey bottle.

I've read about screwdrivers, sockets, and such left behind various panels making noise in brand new vehicles.

I always thought it was Urban Legend...

Re: things you find when opening up a vehicle . .

bought a cab out of a salvage yard once many moons ago for $75. got it home and started cleaning it out and when i reached down in the "pocket" between the floor pan and the outer cab corner on the passenger side i felt something. pulled it out and it was a nasty old gym sock, but it was full of something. dumped it out and got 56 silver dollars, none of them newer than 1965.

Those would be "silver" then. 1964 was the last year of 90% silver content, 1965 was 40% if my information is correct. Dang brother! What a find!

I have an old parts car I bought but I haven't taken it apart....I did meet the previous owner. So far, all I found of interest was a court order allowing him "only to drive to and from work" as he was convicted of drunk driving!

The ashtray of my 72 was full of quarters and underneath the quarters was a roach. I hadn’t seen one of those in years.

All the "Silver" coins from '65 onward were copper with a nickel clad. Just figure it as a giant nickel coin. Not worth a lot.

Bottles in the doors wouldn't surprise me. I also knew a guy with a '64 Bel Air that had a clunk the 15A guys could not locate. It got hit in the back, and when they opened up the left quarter panel to get at the metal, found a Pepsi can.

Worst story ever- I know a guy who fired up a Z-28 engine while it was still on the hook before installation into the car. Brought over a gas can and a battery, and got it going. Had a great time winding it up and making lots of noise. Ran it out of gas, and left it hanging on the hook with red hot exhaust manifolds, going "chuff, chuff, chuff..." when it wouldn't shut off all the way from the detonation. I always wondered what happened to the poor person who bought it, when it went to **** well (I hope) within the warranty period. It had to have been an oil burner, after that treatment.

In high school I had a 71 Pontiac Le Mans and under the carpet in the rear there was a bump I ended up taking up the carpet one day there was a ignition lock cylinder with a key in it

My cousin used to work for Car Mart. He said that they found all varieties of things when they would detail them before putting them out on the lot for sale. Money, guns, knives, drugs, tools, phones, and a big fake goober are some things he has found. He said it was a BIG one.

Re: things you find when opening up a vehicle . .

I've a 67 Impala I've been slowly working on for several years.
Anyway,I bought another one for parts.
I needed the ignition switch and was stripping the dash, trying to figure out how to get it out without a key.
When I removed the dash cluster, there, stuck to the inside of the lower dash was a magnetic key holder, with a set of 2 keys in it!
Mike.

Not so... 1/2 dollars and 'silver dollars' were 40% through 1970. 1971 was the first year silver was eliminated from circulation other than the collector stuff

I found a box of rubbers and a women’s bra under the carpet of an 87’ Silverado. Some dude must have been hiding them from his wife or girlfriend. Ha ha
