1978 chevy sport. are they desirable?

I'm thinking of making a trade for this 78 chevy sport. According to the rpo label it's the real deal. Are they more desirable then regular c10s? It runs and drives. But rough around the edges.

Re: 1978 chevy sport. are they desirable?

YES! The sport was just an option package on the Scottsdale trimed trucks. They had appearance related items, that made them different from the plain jane trucks. I personally love them, but I like to be different. I know where an 1980 Sport stepside is located, but the original owner is letting it rot behind his business. I've made a very fair offer on it, but he thinks it's worth more or just dosen't want to sell it. I'd personally jump on it, but you could let me know if your going to pass. I'll take it!

I love my 1979 stepside sport. I have owned it for 22 years and have only seen 2 other sports in that time.

Re: 1978 chevy sport. are they desirable?

All the Chevy Sport owners seem to like theirs...if you pick this up and want to resell it let me know...78 is the year I am missing.Well optioned truck ...still has the original paint and aluminum wheels by the look of it.Hard to find in original condition.First year that Z77 was an RPO;before that it was a COPO option.

Thumbs up Re: 1978 chevy sport. are they desirable?

Did not realize that the "Tripple Red Color Option" could be ordered. (Exterior-
Interior-Stripes) This combo would be simply "stunning".IMHO-Larry

Re: 1978 chevy sport. are they desirable?

They are more desirable for sure, but it seems that most of them are 2wd. However I wouldn't restomod the truck to much being a real sport model, should be restored correctly.

Now you all have me thinking about my fleetside 77....it has the sport bumpers, used to have the smaller sport mirrors, but it has the aluminum molding upper and lower with the gold stripe in it.....not the sexy decals like I see in the brochure photo above......can I tell by my vin or?????

You can not tell from vin unless you can get docs from GM
If you have the upper and lower mouldings it is not a sport
All Sports were Scottsdale models
In 1977 it would have been a COPO option...9J8 OR 9J9

Re: 1978 chevy sport. are they desirable?

I'm going to try and make a deal... can you even buy painted sport bumpers with the impact strip or replacement plastics? Probably be really expensive to have the decals remade too. I still want it. What should I pay for it if i decide not to trade. He will
Sell outright. Not a rot box but has typical rust from a well used unrestored truck.

As far as I know, no on reproduces the impact strips for the 73-80 Sport bumpers. What does he want to trade you for?

Re: 1978 chevy sport. are they desirable?

This is my grandpa's 78 Scottsdale sport, we believe it has 78k original miles. He passed away over 10 years ago and the truck has been mostly sitting. I have tons of questions and haven't found a lot of info on the paint scheme, was it painted that was or was it a "sticker" package? I would love to get it back to original and cruise it. Do any of you guys have a good source of info on the sport package trucks?
