longevity of these trucks

I am looking at a 2000 denali, Got a potential good deal, but one of my main concerns is the milage. It has 169000 on the odometer. What length of life do these things regulary have. It is in great shape, no oil leaks, no lifter noise, no nothing. I know newer vehicles are built to last a while longer, but do these things regulary see 200000 +?

I bought my tahoe at 100k. I am at 187 now six years later. The engine is definitly past the prime, i wont lie, i noticed a gradual loss of power . but she basically runs real nice still. so far no major problems. i hope to get at 225 out of her.

These trucks will go welll past 200,000miles with these new LS motors. My mom's 2001 Suburban has the 5.3 LS in it and has 151K on it and has tonsss of power and life still left in it. Just keep maintanace up to date and keep it clean and you'll be good!

I've read of some people going 500,000 miles in these new LS motors without any major engine maintanance at all.

BTW is this a OBS Denali or a NBS Denali?

i have a 91 i know it's not the year your talking bout but mine has 364000 on the clock till i wrecked it. with no leaks a little loss of power but none that affected it. ran good till i wrecked it. take care of it and it'll last you forever.

A 2000 denali should be an old body style(88-98) suv. the z71 and denali didn't change styles till 2001, base, ls, lt, etc are the new style.

The ls based motors are great imo. I own 4 of them, all high mileage and in varying conditions. 2001 2500hd 4x4 6.0 345k miles, has a plow or trailer on it all year round, second tranny, gets loaned out and poorly maintained but still gets 12 mpg without trailer or plow. 2001 suburban lt 5.3 4x4 180k miles, family truckster, well maintained and gets 20mpg. 99 long box 4x4 1500, 5.3 155k 15mpg, 2000 tahoe base model 4x4 5.3 207k 16mpg, never maintained, second tranny.

Tranny service is more important the engine service and another 5.3 can be bought for around $250 in decent shape.

Got ya, OBS old body style. I guess its an old body style. Its in nice shape, inerior and exterior, and like I said, not leaks or noises. I guess I need to decide if I want a payment or not. Thank you guys for your input.

5.7 Vortec will go well over 200k if taken good care of. The 4L60e trans on the other hand is on borrowed time if original.

A buddy of mine had like a 93 or 94 and drove it over 350,000 as well. Still going I think!

my 01 has about 130k on it and runs like a champ!! with a 6'' lift and 35s it still has great power, ive done an abs brain and a fuel pump, no other problems.

btw not that im having any problems but whats it run to rebuild or replace the 4l60e?

R&R & rebuild on 4x4 runs around $1500. $1200 on a 2WD.

I have a 05 Silverado; which has about 105K on it. When I bought it new, I thought that it would last me a long time. I'm starting to rethink that idea. The reason for this is all of the electrical emission stuff. It is a very complicated system, if you have any type of failure, you might have a problem with emissions. In Washington state, our cars have to pass emissions until they are 25 years old; which might change sometime.

I've had to replace a thermostat, oxygen sensors and a catalytic converter on my truck so far. The thermostat went out at about 50K and the sensors and converter at 85K. All of these part failures caused engine codes to set; which in turn would create a emission failure.

If you live in a state where you don't have to take your vehicle through emissions, then you might be able to find ways to work around any of these problems.

If I were to do it again, I'd put the money in an older truck.

As far as I know all emissions related stuff( cats, maybe o2 sensors) are under warranty till 100k miles. I had the cats. Replaced on my 02 with 98k in 08 onder warranty.

The nice guy at the Chevy dealer (I talked to the service manager) told me that the warranty was until 80K and 8 years. He told me that he had seen cats only go 30K and some will go 240K. He wasn't interested in helping me one bit. So I was over the mileage, but under the years. I've been around enough dealerships to know what they can do, if they want to. YMMV If I had had a chance to talk to this nice service manager before buying my truck, I would have gone a completely different way.

A bad O2 sensor, took out the cat. So I replaced all of the sensors and one cat. I wasn't looking forward to replacing the cat with a OEM cat for just under $1000. I bought a Walker cat, on sale for $100. It seems to be working fine.

What is going to happen in a few years, it might cost you more to replace some of these emission components than what the vehicle is worth. Especially if you take it into the dealer.
