bilstein shock question

Can you remove the upper mounts on these shocks so they are just eyelets like the bottoms of the shocks? If so, do you just unbolt them or do they have to be cut off?

Re: bilstein shock question

I think you'll have to cutoff a welded washer. then it will be just like normal.

Re: bilstein shock question

can anybody verify this? If a guy cut off the welded washer, would it slide onto an existing shock shaft mounted to the frame?

Re: bilstein shock question

I know I've tried to remove the stud on one before & it was bonded to the bushing. As I tried pressing the stud, the entire bushing came out. I don't know if just some are like that or if it's a standard.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Understand.

If you need to remove the front stud from one of their shocks, you can try to cut & press the remaining portion of the stud out. If it's bonded & wants to come out as a unit, there's a simple fix. You can get some poly bushing halves to replace the bushing. Done.....

Re: bilstein shock question

First.... I so appreciate the help.... where would i get the poly bushing for the shocks? Could I get poly or rubber bushings from Bilstein? I'm new to the whole frame up restoration world.

They come in various sizes (OD & ID) so it's just measuring & looking up your specific needs. I recall when I used them for one app, I didn't utilize a sleeve because I couldn't get things sized correctly if one was used. The bolt shank worked fine though.....

Re: bilstein shock question

put a screwdriver in between, and shoot a little pb blaster in there. they will come out. I had to move the sleeves on mine from top to bottom and that worked.
