Re: Well got one finally

I pretty much have all the exterior flat green done now. Next I need to decide if I'm gonna use white or the green thats on the side mirror on the very top of the roof and the grill/bumper.
I also now have working brake lights and rear signal lights. I turned the back up lights into signal lights and just made the brake light circuit more reliable. For the purists I didn't cut the stock wiring which is in pretty good shape, I ran new wiring alongside the old stuff so it would be simple for a restorer down the road to return it to stock. Here are pics, pics are always good!

Re: Well got one finally

I finally pulled out the stock fuel tank. Now I need to either fill the hole or put a dummy filler there just to keep the look. I guess while I decide it will just be a front door for critters.
I'm thinking if I can't find a home for the old fuel tank maybe I could cut it up and remount the lower part as a storage area, has anyone tried that?
Also has anyone ever trimmed the back wall to get some more seat room? Seems like I could get a couple more inches of seat recline that way.

Re: Well got one finally

Hi Shok,

Welcome to the thread, as I joined a couple weeks ago. I like the rattle can idea though mine was painted in a backyard, but i should have just done it myself. With regards to parts, LMC, Classic Truck Parts, The Truck Shop (just be patient), Brothers in So Cal, and find BudMan56 on this site. He lives about 2 miles from me and he has a lot of parts available. There are a couple guys I know in so cal who have a stack of parts to move, so give a shout if there is something needed. And check their websites for monthly specials as freight will be a killer.

Re: Well got one finally

That looks Wayyyyyy better than when you bought it, and it'll last too being in Rustoleum its safer than the primer that was on there. My vote is for white roof, white front grill and bumper...

Re: Well got one finally

Thanks guys, I've done a couple of orders from Classic and one from LMC so far. I started some of the interior work today, I'll put up some of the before pics for the interior tomorrow. It's sad in a way you can tell that up until the last owner this was a bone stock unmolested timepiece, just with rusty bits. In one way I'm glad I don't have the hassle of welding in some of those floor sections, but he didn't even do that cleanly. I wish I got it before he tried to restore any of the cosmetic stuff.

Here are all the parts I got from summit to do this:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-290154 (brackets)
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-290108 (fuel cell 16 gal)
fittings:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-98201
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AER-FBM3741

I'm gonna change one of the fittings and the fuel line set up, I just had to rush since the tank the truck came with was leaking into he cab. If you follow this set up but with something better than just a rubber line from the fitting post up some pics.

Re: Well got one finally

Well I did some interior work yesterday, here are some before and after pics. More just scuffing and shooting. If its not bad enough that the PO ignored surface rust add to that he primered over it for who know why. I'll also put pics of the paint I'm using. Also wonder why would the guy rip the door up like this instead of drilling the screws out? Idiots!

Re: Well got one finally

Yesterday at a Love's truck stop I came across Mexican style blankets for 9 bucks each and found one that matches my color scheme. I'm also including pics of what I found when I removed the ugly dark brown cover someone added at some point in the trucks life. Anyone know if that was the original seat?

Re: Well got one finally

Well did some exhaust work on the weekend, but my neck started hurting from welding while laying on my side and it just looks junky, so no pics! But it has a glasspack now and a new set of plugs.
I also did a sort of custom air cleaner, if any of you remember in one of the original pics there was the stock oil bath air cleaner. Now oil bath cleaners are good but I just hated the look of it, so I slapped some mini chrome cleaner I had laying in the parts stash, but that bothered me too, just looks too restrictive for 250 cubic inches. Back to the parts stash which also contained a WWII Swiss Army helmet, which was good because the modern air filter in my stash looks totally wrong on its own, like a Honda something. So here are the pics of before, during and after I married the helmet to the air cleaner.
It doesnt fit the character of the truck fully either, more rat rod in my eyes, but I still dig it.

Like the air cleaner but it needs one of those pointy things on the top. Not a butterfly nut.

Yep I found a threaded spike from mooneyes yesterday, just have to place the order! I think it was the German helmets that were spiked but who needs to be historically correct
