69 C-10 Shorty Stepper

I recently just picked up a 1969 Chevy C-10 and I plan on making it my summer daily driver. There is a lot of cab rust thanks to our crappy winters but I will be taking this slow since it is the first time doing this type of body work.

This is what she looked like the day I brought her home.

I started tearing it down the next day, the rust is a crappy thing to deal with but it's coming apart surprisingly well.

One I got the front fenders off I started to see the rust getting worse on the cab, kind of a bummer but to be expected I guess.

Next I removed the doors, luckily the truck came with 2 refinished doors so these rusty ones can go away, I got all the panels I think I will need but I am not sure about the lower door mounts on the body, they are rusted through and I am not sure if they are available or if I have to try and make them?

Re: 69 C-10 Shorty Stepper

Today I was able to torch off the mounting bolts for the box and to my non surprise more rust. I am tempted to try and find a fleetside box somewhere but I still need to tear the box completely down and see if I can save what is there.

I had no one around to help me today so I had a nice struggle with the engine hoist while getting the box off.

Once I got the box off I noticed the bent frame piece in that back and have no clue if those are available or if I should try and heat it up to straighten it? Looks like someone had already torched some of it to get the trailer hitch to fit.

Re: 69 C-10 Shorty Stepper

I was finally able to get the cab off today, couldn't get any help so I made it work with the engine hoist and a little pushing and pulling. I finally got to see the full extent of the rust on the cab and it will be needing some help but I think it is savable but with many hours of cutting and welding. I looked for a cab up here but they all have the same amount of rust.

The back cross memeber of the frame has been torched and bent pretty badly, are these available or should I heat this one up and straighten it?
