1931 Model A

Hopefully nobody minds me posting this up here. I'm pretty proud of it so I wanted to share. It is a 1931 Ford Model A (roadster, I think). It definitely isn't a car I would go looking for, but I really like it now that I have been driving it. The history of the car is what is special to me. My Uncle likes to restore 1956 Bel Airs. not 55, not 57, just 56. I'm not sure why, I will have to ask him next time I see him. Anyway, he purchased this car from his cousin who inherited it, along with a lot of old thunderbirds after my great Uncle died. My great Uncle purchased this car in 1957 for $50 and took his drivers license test in it, so the story goes. When he passed, he had a nephew living with him. He never had children or married. Probably some of the reason he was able to have all the cars. Anyway, the nephew got the house and everything he had. My Uncle tried to purchase it but the asking price was a bit out of line. The nephew tried selling it a for a while and couldn't. He then called my Uncle and a fair enough price was agreed upon. He finished it and hasn't driven it much. He has been after me for a few years to come get it and drive it. This year he quit asking and told me to come get it. He told me he was going to will it to me since I'm the one out of 6 cousins that appreciates cars. He knows I will never sell it, and that the family history means more to me than the value of the car. It's sounding like he wants me to keep it now, instead of later. So here she is - Great Uncle Sonny/Uncle Tim's/Soon to be Ryan's 1931 Ford Model A. Hope you all like the pictures. I would like to have the blue painted a factory color - most likely olive. I'm not sure if the tan on the wheels was factory or not. Id like them to be painted as well.

Re: 1931 Model A

I also found registration cards back to 1961 on the steering column. As far as I know the engine is stock, with an alternator upgrade. Still using 6 volt system.

Thanks bowtie. There is a older fella in church who has a bunch of old cars this era. I always thought growing up that he must be a rich classy guy. I took this to church today. I have become the old guy with the old car. Feels pretty good. Ha.

Re: 1931 Model A

That is a nice 31. And a great story. I love the stock Model A's. I had a 31 coupe myself but it was far from stock. You should have a lot of fun with it. Congratulations.

Beautiful car! My dad has restored/painted quite a few of those, always a fun build. While I'm more into the chopped and swapped As I can definitely appreciate that beautiful example of a proper roadster.

Awesome ride and story, I have my uncles 1970 C10 and his 1985 C10, both bought brand new by him, and nobody in the family wanted them,so I said I will be the caretaker of them. Fixed up the 70 and the 85 is next. Glad to see you got the 31.Should be a fun ride, and keeping it in the family.

That's a super good looking Abone. I don't think I would change a thing. I've been tempted to buy a Shay reproduction roadster running around here for some years but I really prefer the real deal. You and the wife and grand kids can have great fun in that car.

Nice car! You are so lucky to have it. My dad used to reupholster lots of pre-war cars, and I can tell that that car has a nice job done on the interior.

Exactly....lower that thing, put some 22"-24" tires or better yet, 'donk it'... and put in an LS engine and paint it bright corvette yellow.....yeah, baby yeah!

Excellent dudes!!...lol

Awesome looking A for sure. Loving that color and the wheels. To me it just looks "right". Great story and the family history of the car makes it even better. Keep it as is, drive it and enjoy the ride.

I came across this from this summer. My youngest sister from Sante Fe came to visit with her family. The car was parked at an antique mall and they wanted to get pictures with it

Well that looks pretty close. Looks like the yellow/tan wheels may have been a proper color.

Re: 1931 Model A

No lowering or hot rodding this one. I don't think Great Uncle Sonny would approve. Uncle Tim however may welcome that. One of his 56's he sold had 500hp with camaro parts underneath.

My dad actually made the step trim way back when. I'm not sure which Uncle had it at that time. He is a stainless steel nut. Dog kennel hinges and hardware - stainless steel, miscellaneous HD parts when I was in that phase - SS, handrail for the basements steps -SS, mailbox - SS, hitch pins - SS, bird feeder - take a guess? You get the point.
