Trading for buddy buckets...good idea?

So I'm currently bringing back to life my 72 Cheyenne super short step and I have the original bench seat in it. Its in pretty good shape and from what I have researched it is the highest option bench seat for that year truck. I just discovered that my cousin has had some buddy buckets stored away for pretty close to 25 years now. They need to be reupholstered and the only foam work would need to be on the driver side outer edge where you get in and out of all the time. he has no plans for them told me he would trade me straight up for my seat so he could put it in another project to sell. I have always wanted to put buckets with the console in my truck but once I get this truck up and running I would like to be able to drive around my wife and daughter so I know those would be farther on Down the Line. I'm trying to stick to as close to original as I can and I know that buddies only came out of 67 to 68 trucks. Should I pull the trigger and am I overthinking the whole "keep original" thing.

Sounds like you will come out of the deal smelling like roses. A buddy bucket seat in the shape you describe is worth $1000. $2000 after new covers.

I have a 68 with the buddy buckets.
The truth is,they are not as comfortable as a regular bench seat.
And,the center seat/console is not comfortable at all!
If you trade,you might sell the buddy's and get your specific year bucket seats.

That was my biggest thing is I've heard that the buddy's are not the most comfortable seat.

I had a set and really liked them. I thought they were comfy, especially after a re-cover with some foam repair. If they weren’t so damn expensive now I’d get a set for my current 68.
I say you go for it. If you don’t like them, you’ll make money selling them and can put whatever seat you like in.

It makes sense financially enough that I’d do the trade even if you aren’t going to use them. You can always find another bench.

Thanks for all the input guys. Yeah im going to pull the trigger on it. Like everyone says financially it makes too much sense and I may end up really liking them. Do any fellow members have a good starting point to where I could get some quality covers. Was thinking about going black houndstooth

I would get the seat and I would like to see that truck also!
The buddy's in my 67 CST to me seem like the most comfortable out of all the seats in any 67-72..

Couple of things, my view only of course. Does your cousin know the current value of the buckets? There is no way I would make that trade with a family member knowing my family member could make serious money by selling them.

Its been quite awhile back, when buddies were selling for the outrageous price of 400 bucks for a set that needed redone. I ran in to a GMC for sale that was pretty cheap and it looked like it had buddies. Gave the person a call. Turns out it was her dads or something like that (been too long), anyway I think she wanted 800 or 1200 (?) but the truck was just too far gone and too rusty. So I told her why I wasn't interested and she said she would just have it hauled off to the scrappers. But if I wanted anything off of it I could just have it. I told her the value of the seat and she appreciated that I was honest, but still said I could just have it. I gave her 200 bucks anyway. And this was a person I didn't even know.

And lastly I had another pair of buddies later on that I totally restored and put em in my last K20, it was a 71. Looked good, but in the end I preferred a bench. Sold the buddies to a truck friend, went back to a nice bench.

And realistically I wouldn't be selling them till my daughter starts getting embarrassed by sitting in the middle of the truck with her mom and dad lol then I would be going to the true buckets with console. Lastly I'm kinda getting the feeling that the comfort of the seat is going to be hit or miss with each person's definition of comfortable or just the condition of the seat.

trade them, use them, if u don't like them get another bench which is way easier to get than buddies. Sell buddies or trade for buckets and console and give cousin some cash.
