I find that looking forward to the "fun" modifications get me through the not so fun modifications like rust repair. So.....what are your plans for it once you get past the welding and grinding?

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside

Well, it already runs well, although I have noticed it's started puking ATF in my garage. Once I can get the door on though, I'm going to get a new windshield in it and drive it all summer. There's lots of little things wrong with it, but nothing that would make it break down.

I also plan to shoot it with some single stage and lower it, get rid of those silly crappy wheels and all terrains. My gf was a Seabee, she loves wood work so she wants to do the bed floor.

I'm hoping it can be a driving work in progress.

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside

Thanks! I have to add, my Tabco floor pan that I bought when I thought I was just going to patch the floor does not play nicely with my Classic Part's inner rocker, kickpanel, cab support.

Too bad because it fits the seat riser great,

The problem is this rib here, I think,

Looks like a small filler piece is in order. Seam sealer and carpet will be your friend and nobody but you will ever know.

I was considering folding that flange down and using it like that.

I also considered just ordering another floor pan from Classic Parts that will likely fit their other stuff better, but then I saw it was "Oversized" so now I don't know what I want to do lol.

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside

Here's the gist,

brought it home from Little Rock,

Blanket to keep me warm with no heater and crap off my arse,

Had an Edelbrock 750 with no choke on it, and weird rubber plug's in the valve cover's that cause it to leak oil out of the gaskets,

It still looks ok from here,

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...119_113358.jpg

This exhaust managed to rot halfway off sitting in the garage all winter,

Heater core I meant to fix at start of all this,

Full of poo, of course,

Not awesome under the rubber floor,

My nephew put the door pins in for me,

The passengers side got some light blasting, wire wheeling, a few pin holes welded shut, and was good to go,

Driver's side I thought I could just patch the floor pan,

But I just couldn't let this slide,

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside

So it went in the garage for the winter

And I cut everything out,

Cab mount in, checking fit on inner rocker and lower kick panel,

The general idea of how the part's go,

Tabco Floor pan laid in,

Fit's well back here,

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside

Ok, that should bring us up to date. Today was really nice, so before work I went to look for a seat, bought a grill instead, guess it'll sit in the garage longer lol.

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside

That cross brace, under the DS floor pan, does it attach in any way to the floor pan or do they just rest against each other? I've got a similar rust spot on my 85 I'm going to try to repair myself.

The lateral one, from the factory, has a little square of sheetmetal on it, to attach it to the floor pan.

None of my aftermarket piece's came with one, the floor pan or the brace, so I'm going to make a piece to sit in there out of some panels I hacked up and couldn't use because I measured once and cut seventy four times.

Once you get in there, it's not hard at all. Tedious, definitely, but not hard lol.

Re: New here, my 79 C10 Stepside

Well this show's what I was up against all winter,

But she's out now where I can start chipping away at it a little faster now. I wish paint weren't so expensive lol.

I tested out my new paint gun on a spare bedside, I need practice lol,

Today I got the outer rocker lined up like I think I want it, then my cheap welding helmet broke, so I put the fender on so I can pretend like I have a whole truck again lol.

Awesome! Couldn't help but think of Risky Business when he stalled dad's Porsche and the cool music died.

Lol, excellent reference! I put a new Quickfuel carb on it last fall and didn't do anything else, so it's pig rich at idle, and the choke isn't adjusted right either. But it makes me feel better to putt around lol.

That's awesome, i had to go to Facebook to find out what they ever were lol.

They are American Racing 214's BTW. I think I might keep them, with different tires of course. Pretty retro cool now, everyone has rallye's it seems like. Of course the ridiculous AT tires have to go lol.
