Closing the cab fuel fill hole

Does anybody make a form fitting plate that can be tacked in?

Right now I have a tennis ball stuffed into the grommet. It would not be good if someone were to pour gas into the cab.

Pour gas into the cab...
I'm just trying to imagine the situation.

Re: Closing the cab fuel fill hole

Rockinrod~ "Free gas drop off, please insert through this whole in my cab" Wouldnt that be nice? Anyways, all you can do is hack 'n tack a piece of metal yourself. Grind and fill with bondo. I like the aluminum based body fillers they make now to ward off cracking and moisture seepage but that stuff is difficult to sand after it hardens. Its been about 5 years since I did my novice job with a small wire feed welder and it still is doin fine. I always spray a little rubberized undercoating behind my welds if I can because my work is ugly.

If you have an old door, you can cut your own. I was lucky to have an old rusted door back in the day when I did mine.

There is very little crown to this area. A circular piece of sheet metal with just a little hammering to stretch metal ever so slightly would do the trick. Body filler would take of the rest if you're not exact.

Re: Closing the cab fuel fill hole

LMC now sells one, in their latest catalog, page 77 with exterior accessories.
why it's not with the cab sheet metal....or gas tank stuff...??? The order of their catalog always seems strange to me. anyway, it's $10

Or just put a locking gas cap on there and throw the keys away.

Re: Closing the cab fuel fill hole

We still have plenty of full serve gas stations in Canada, where they pump the gas for you

Re: Closing the cab fuel fill hole

A friend of mine let someone barrow his truck and they pumped gas into his cab. I JB welded a stock looking painted cap on to my filler neck until I had it shaved.

I pretty much did the same. Kept the filler neck with a regular chrome cap. The rubber gasket holds it pretty secure along with a hose clamp around the filler neck on the backside just in case. Something to block any attempts of filling would be a good idea.

Made me think of the old Andy Griffith show when Barney was in the armored truck and Gomer was pumping gas in thru the gun port..
