1970 Jimmy emblem questions

Hey guys,

Fiddling with the new project and have a couple emblem questions.

1. What should the fender emblem say below GMC ??? (Jimmy, 1500,??)

2. The truck had a Custom emblem above the outside door handless, is that factory correct? Dose anyone know where I can get replacement Custom emblems, cant find them in the catalogs.

3. Glove box should it have GMC custom on it?

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

The glovebox should have a gmc custom emblem...I'll have to go outside tomorrow and look at the fender to see what mine says and the custom on the door ...havent seen on a jimmy. My 68 gmc suburban had it on the door and some trucks have it as well. We need a gmc guy to answer that one. Are you sure those are original jimmy doors?

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

I have no idea if the doors are original, except there is a GMC sticker on the driver door edge that matches the Vin # so Maybe??

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

Truck was repainted, doors have all hardware appropriate for Jimmy doors. Truck had a few hard years with i'm guessing a very young kid. Rebuild and replace......

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

GMC
Jimmy for the fender badge.

''Custom'' in outline script right above door handles is correct. I have the 3 holes in the door of my '71 Jimmy. I have the chrome ''Custom'' badges in a box. Just don't want to lose them blasting thru the bushes when offroading. I don't think they make these in repops. Maybe GMC Paul?
Model Year 1970 was the debut of the GMC Jimmy, so late '69 would be correct for a first year Jimmy.
I do have ''GMC Custom'' on the glovebox door. Not the prettiest example though.

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

Great info, I was confused about the GMC JIMMY emblems since the catalogs list this option as a 1971-72 not 1970.

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

Just parted a Jimmy and it had the custom emblems on the doors also. If you're looking for a used set I have them for sale in the blazer section.

Well, I wasn't paying attention to GMCs when this was new. The 1970 Model Year Jimmy by GMC was rushed into production in late '69 when it became apparent K/5s were selling like hotcakes and Chevy couldn't keep up.
Sometimes, I think they made the K/1500 Jimmy just so Caddy dealers could sell a 'blazer-type'' without displaying Chevrolets on their lot.
[Always wondered why the Jimmy is a K/1500, not a K/750 like it's stablemate, the K/5?]
My '71 has the Jimmy badge. The paint shadow on your '70 shows a badge like that was there. I guess the jury's out, until you get a definite 1970 ''back-in-the-day photograph.

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

Hmm. I don't have a 4 Wheel Drive badge under the side marker lights.

I want a GMC over K/750 badge. I'll have to have them made. I wonder what the melting point of Chrome is?

My 72 is a custom, but no custom emblem on glovebox. I don't think 72's had them?

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

I think the Custom is like the CST version for Jimmys & should say on the SPID. Chrome trim on windshield gasket and vent windows, & chrome trim on marker lights.

my 70 jimmy is not a Custom. but has the badging similar to Briank above except the "4wheeldrive" is just below the Jimmy emblem on fender. Not under the marker. So who knows.

Re: 1970 Jimmy emblem questions

I've had my 72 for 35 years, and it was untouched original before the frame-off. It is a Cheyane package and has the custom emblem on the doors and glovebox.
Couldn't find a pic of glove box, sorry, but it is on there.
