Adding stereo to panel - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well have new radio for panel and trying to figure best mounting place. In dash means cutting and back and forth on that. On one hand its cutting a perfectly good dash . On the other hand I want to update trucks power train,suspenion and comforts,so is really that big of deal?

Looked in dash idea,good but not most convent. In console,not to point of building console yet,need real seats.

Suggestion,thought or pictures(best).

I have done it all ways, stock AM with new speaker, cut dash & door panels for new radio, aftermarket radio in stock location, and computer speakers with MP3 Player. I don't ask on here because no matter what you want to do someone is going to jump on your chit about it....

.. I find the computer speakers and MP3 player work about the best if you don't want to cut anything. Unlimited music you actually like, and a pretty good sound.

Just do what works best for you .

i was in the same boat. i ended up removing the original dash and making this one fit my radio. i took a repair patch panel and lowered everything to fit.

That looks good. I did something similar for the Panel Truck with a BOSS setup. I don't have the unit installed yet though.

I used a RetroSound II in mine and have been very happy with it (fits in factory location).

Looks like blazin texas did what I had planned except I was going to eliminate the ashtray at the same time.

What brand head unit is that? Is it a single or double DIN chassis? I put a cheap Pyle/Boss 8" screen head unit in my DD Dodge and they never lasted more than 2 years. I need something better for the Burb but don't require all the apple/phone/conductivity stuff.

I built a center console for mine and I've been searching for a radio delete plate that matches my interior color.

I'm going to build a removable center console with a plug to power it. I'm planning two or four speakers, the head unit and cup holders with some storage. I'll probably use a latch in the bottom under the storage tray. I may incorporate an amp and add a couple plugs so I can use speakers elsewhere and just plug them in when I plug up the console power.
