s10 column swap ---
I have an early pickup on an s10 chassis. Used the s10 steering column. Occassionally the truck won't start unless I wiggle the steering wheel/column a bit and then it turns over. Any ideas as to what I need to look for that's causing this?
I couldn't figure out where to post this but I figured there's lots of s10 swaps in this section, maybe someone knows? Thanks |

Sounds to me like an ignition switch or possibly a ground issue.

Do you have to wiggle the wheel to be able to turn the key or wiggle the wheel after you have the key turned to start? There is a big difference in what is going on between the two. My Wife tends to park her late model with the wheels turned a bit putting a bind on the steering wheel and lock plate on the pin causing the lock cylinder to not to want to turn until she wiggles the wheel a bit. If that is the case there isn't anything wrong at all. If you have the key turned to start and then have to wiggle things wheel or otherwise you probably have the switch loose or out of adjustment down on the column.

There must be something down the column. The key is turned and then I need to bump the column to get it to turn over.

the switch is likely out of adjustment or worn out

My feeling is that Mr48 is on the right track (as usual). If I turn the key, sometimes nothing happens- push up on the wheel and it turns right over. I just am unsure what it is that would be loose for me to tighten or secure.
