ALL the 12-bolt pinion seal info!
Had to change a pinion seal in the 71 12-bolt. Heard on here that the best seals were from NAPA. Called Napa, and got some weird questions! Come to find out, a 12-bolt is an HO33-HO35. The seal PN is Chicago Rawhide (CR) 3924031. The Timken seal # (Autozone) is 8460N. Hope this helps!

Rock on, at least you can use these numbers to cross reference. Just trying to save someone the search time.

For '71 1/2 ton Only 2 Diffs were avalible....The Truck 12-bolt & a Dana 44. The only reason im saying anything is because using HO33/35 to order parts will get you in trouble. |

Re: ALL the 12-bolt pinion seal info!
Idk, the guy (manager, old-school guy) said he had d44, d60, ho33, and ho35 in his computer. He'll, I'd never heard of the last 2, and didn't know you could get a d44 in a half- ton. With your wealth ok knowledge, what is an ho33/35? Nomenclature for 12- bolt? I'd never heard of that, I just knew 12-bolt and 2 sizes of 10 bolt. Seriously, I'd like to know!

Not sure on the HO-35, Maybe a "internal" GM name for coarse spline axle Truck 12-Bolts in the mid 60's, Maybe CaptainFab will chime in on this. There are 2 different 12 bolts....A Car 12-bolt & a Truck 12-bolt. Theres atleast 7 different 10 bolts.... 6.5" 10 bolt (Vega) 7.5" 10 bolt 7.625" 10 bolt 8.2" 10 bolt 8.5" 10 bolt 8.6" 10 bolt BOP 10 bolt |

Re: ALL the 12-bolt pinion seal info!
I have not heard of a Eaton HO35 before, but then again I haven't checked into all the different Eaton differentials. The 1/2 ton Eaton differential used from '55 thru '62, I have always known as the Eaton HO32. The 3/4 ton trucks used the Eaton HO52, and the 1 tons the Eaton HO72. Both were used from the early to mid 50's thru '72.
The number designation that Eaton used on these differentials, indicate the rated GVW for that differential. The HO32, had a GVW rating of 3200 lbs, the HO52 had a GVW rating of 5200 lbs, the HO72, 7200 lbs. So maybe the HO35 was a upgraded version of the HO32?

Re: ALL the 12-bolt pinion seal info!
I have a question about these seals....the CR 3924031 I got from napa has a flange on it the old one we took out did not have said flange, when we tried to install the new one one (with the flange) we killed it during install. We tried to get this flange to sit flush because it seemed the dust cover on the yoke would hit the flange. Any help would be greatly appreciated
