Re: N00b with a 72 c20

Reran my plug wires under the headers. Had to make a few brackets. Came out pretty good. It also took 2 sets of custom plug wires. I dont see why those cheap bastards dont just give you 8 long cords since you are cutting them to fit anyway.

#3 and #5 are a real pain with these headers. took 2 brackets. one on the oil pan and another against the block. No wires touching headers though!!

Re: N00b with a 72 c20

Started on making my stainless braided tranny cooler lines.
Only stabbed my self in the finger once when putting the fittings on the hose.

Re: N00b with a 72 c20

looking good. Really clean. Looks like you get to have some cab patch work to play with. I'm looking at about the same level of rust in my old step side. Keep up the good work and pic's

Re: N00b with a 72 c20

belts and hoses all on and tight. Filled it with oil.
Going to put some water in it tonight.
Going to try to fire it up this weekend for some motivation on the metal work.

Re: N00b with a 72 c20

Tried to start it this weekend. First tip is dont try to start it in Drive... Second tip is before filling with water make sure ALL your sensors are screwed in or plugs are in the holes...
I primed the oil pump up to 65psi ish for a 30 seconds to a minute. Drill was smoking!!
couldnt get any spark.
tested the ignition module and it tested good. I then tested the distributor pickup and it seems to be putting out way less than 1VAC. Hard to find a new pickup and the ones I saw were $50. Plus you have to remove the pin and gear from the distrib to replace it.

Bought a skipwhite distrib for $39 which includes cap, rotor, ignition module, coil, distributor. cant beat that with a stick. Should be here friday so I can try again to start this beast.

Re: N00b with a 72 c20

cut out the drivers rocker and found a little more rust than I was expecting. Got some more patch panels on the way.

I've been enjoying reading through your build. Solving problems as you run across them. Just like all will have to do when we get that far along. Thanks for showing us the way through them.
