one ton disc conversion and drop spindles

If this is already posted on here somewhere I apologize and would appreciate a link to the thread. I am looking to upgrade my 69 dually c30 to front discs and at the same time drop between 2 and 3 inches. Ive heard rumors about 80s c30 spindles being a bolt in swap which would be awesome but id like to confirm that thats the case before I spend the money on them. If anyone has done this swap or has any info on this setup please ket me know thanks!

Yes they are a swap, but you'd likely need the a-arms from what I remember. If that I would grab the whole cross member, and convert to ps if you don't already have it.

You can lower your front with 3 inch drop springs, but it maybe stiff for your taste.

Spindles come in 3 inch drops, and keep the smooth factory ride.

If you have more time then money you could section your cross member for 1.5 inches, and get the rest from slightly trimming your springs. This works great if your grabbing another cross member, and takes a few hours to complete. I did one as a test for my 18 year old cousins friend in 3 hours, and had about $20 worth of materials involved. Mind he brought me a clean bare cross member. So all I had to do was get to work.

Forgot to add if you wanna keep it really cheap you could also relocate your shock mounts up as high as you can to keep the stock shocks. Then re-angle them for better articulation or what ever word will fit better.

I also did this to the kids truck when the cross member was swapped in at my house when he had it back together.

Re: one ton disc conversion and drop spindles

Thanks for the info, my plan ( as of now, im sure itll change as I go) is air bags and drop spindles. Im looking to set the frame right out on the ground. All I can find for drop spindles are half ton setups except for the 80s era trucks, but if those will work I think thatd be a good way to swap to discs at the same time.

Re: one ton disc conversion and drop spindles

You need c20 or c30 drop spindles.
The balljoints and outer tie rods will have to match the year spindle you choose.
You can use 73-87 arms but its not necessary.
Look at Belltech, Western Chassis or Performance Online for good spindles.
But they will be around $400.

Re: one ton disc conversion and drop spindles

Western Chassis sells them for about $300.

I know C10's can't lay frame with out a Z, but a section may work.

The 73-87 C30 CC Duallys can do it with just bolt on's.

I think you need to cup the lower A arms to give enough space for the lay out to work.

Re: one ton disc conversion and drop spindles

I have the complete setup you need/want- all with less than 1000 miles on it. My '69 C30 got wrecked and I pulled all the new parts off.
Mine is based on a '76 C30 2WD w/ the JB8 brake option(largest they made then)
I have all new hubs, rotors, calipers, hoses, control arms, tie rods, steering box(PS)sway bar bushings, sway bar(1 1/4") Monroe Magnum shocks, bearings, seals. I went cheap on the drop and cut 1 full coil off the top of the springs. I ran 235/85R/16E tires on OEM Chevy wheels

Re: one ton disc conversion and drop spindles

Are they drop spindles or just the coil cut out?
