New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

Got my new seats in. Just wondering how you guys mounted yours.
Any good pictures, tips, or suggestions.

How strong does the mount need to be? It seems like the weak point is always going to be in the seat.

I need several more 2x4s under it I think.

Re: New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

You can weld up your own but getting them to look good might be a challenge.

Before you start building anything go to pick a part or your local go to wrecking yard and look at the seat bases for the front seats in 90 something Dodge Grand Caravans or just the Caravans. They bolt though the van floor with 4 1/2 inch bolts and the seats bolt to them on their tracks. They are pretty close to your 4 2x4 stack in height and would be real simple to modify to match the bolt holes for the seats. Easy to paint to match the seats or rest of the interior too. If you get the ones out of the deluxe van the passenger side has a sliding tray in it to use as a stash box. That's just a thought that might work and not cost much.

Not a helpful comment, but are those pre-made seats? Who makes them?

Re: New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

ok,here's the deal.
set the seats up on blocks like you have. get them sitting proper like you want it. use wood blocks or whatever to set them where you want them. install a set of adjustable tracks under them so you can adjust them. set the adjusters in the middle somewhere unless you are an extra tall or extra short dude in which case it will beup to you to decide how it should be. then take some cardboard or poster board and make a mockup mount to take up the air space under the seat adjusters and the floor mounting area for the seats. now,if you don't have the skills or tools to complete the job, take the 3 dimensional poster board mock up model to a fab shop and have them make a metal bracket for you. take some pics of the mock up when it is in place soyou can show the fab shop what you are dealing with. OR, take the whole truck there and have them build what you want. (best case scenario because then they have an actual model to work with)

are those the seats from summit? I like those a lot. did you get adjusting tracks with them? you will probably want to if not.

I built risers for my buckets in the 41

the guy who bought the truck wants a bench seat so we will be doing it again sometime soon.

Re: New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

Awesome guys. Thanks for all the replies.

Mr48, good idea. I've never seen the Caravan mounts. Did the van have a flat floor? I've never been to a yard in Wichita. I'll have to call around. Wouldn't happen to have a pic of one, would you?

Ogre, I've looked through your build, and your glass work is amazing. I've had some experience with fiberglass in my younger days with ground-effects and speaker boxes. I'm more fond of my new mistress: metal.
Maybe someday, but I've got a lot of projects ahead of that.
I really like the Fusion seats too. My friend has one, and their comfy.

CountofMonteCarlo, love the username. Yes, they are pre-made. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Proca...yl,319017.html
I really like the color and the bolstering. I bought them sight-unseen, and I love them. They fit me perfectly. But I'm 5'9" 165.
And they come with the slider tracks.

dsraven, Thanks for the input. I'm no pro, but I do have the tools and ability to do all of this. I'm just looking for ideas. I had considered mocking up like you suggest but was thinking of using square tubing.

joedoh, I love the simplicity. Is that 1/8th inch? Is the '41 chopped? I feel like I would need mine a lot taller. Maybe similar to this, but a box.

Re: New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

Hey guys. Just found this. If I was smart I would have ordered these with the seats. Price seems right, but I'm probably going to make my own. thanks again for the help.

Re: New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

universal one size fits all never fits an ogre
i can't even buy a baseball cap to fit

chances of that pedestal being the right height and tilt is slim to none
chances of it fitting on the current seat mount reinforcements is zero

Re: New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

B-mac I have been looking at the same seats. price is attractive. I have a big back window and I think they will fit nice. Originally I thought I was going TMI bench but the truck currently has aluminum racing seats and I realized how little room there is between these seats. I miss working with fiberglass so i may do a waterfall center console like I did in my 32 ford.

I think they would work if you added one of these, but now you're into for another $100 per side. With the sliders on the seats, these actually mount with a horizontal bolt. []=== {}}

On the pic below, the slider bolt screw into those tubes.

And I'm with you on the angle. Heavy modification would be necessary.

From a guy who never sat in them before I bought them, I really like them.

Re: New Seats! - How'd you guys mount yours?

I like them too. there was a new set of red ones on wichita craigslist last year for super cheap with sliders and stands, and I missed em by a day. :X

my 41 wasnt chopped, but the 41-46 are a lot smaller inside so I had to set the seats up in a comfortable position. I just scored a town and country third row for the next 41, and I will be setting it up the same way.
