Question A couple of Power Questions.

Has anybody used the Comp Cam # 270HE with a 670 CFM Holley? I also have an Edelbrock Performer Intake. I'm wondering if this will be enough fuel for my 350. I just have a RV cam in her now, but, I want to buy new tires every month or so (by burning them on the street). Do you think I will get 325 HP out of it? That is my goal.

Also I'm wondering what it would take to swap TH350 to 700R. Any tips?

That's a reasonable goal, but remember that 75% of your horsepower will come from the heads. It's all in how much fuel and air you can get into the engine, efficiently burn it, and get it back out.

My heads will be going to get worked on, I don't want to chance messing them up. If I tell the machine shop what I want to end up with, they should be able to do what I want them to, is that correct?

600 cfm is enough for a mild 350. Unless you have low gears, good heads, and headers, I would go with a 600cfm Edelbrock Performer or 570 Holley Street Avenger on the Performer intake (not Performer RPM). What is your rear axle ratio? Also, what is the new cam's intake duration at .050" lift? As Randy said above, heads are the most important component. A stock engine with Vortec heads will run better than an engine with stocks heads, big cam, and 670 carb.

I know it's sounding like a broken record, but the heads are the key to making decent power. I personally would not invest any money in a set of 20-30 year old heads. By the time they are properly rebuilt and ported you will spend almost what a set of aftermarket heads cost. And most likely more than a set of new Vortech heads. The Comp HE 270 cam, 9.5 to 1 compression,15/8 headers, RPM intake and that 670 Holley would get you an honest 350 to 375 HP. Add a 2400 stall converter and 3.73 gears and then start saving for tires.Good Luck!

Here's an article that was posted a while back telling how to get 400 from a 350. I haven't done it yet, but this is probably what I'll do as a general guideline next year when I 'freshen up' my 350.
