New Ring & Pinion
Any tips on installation? I read all the instructions that came with the new gears. All input will be appreciated

Get some gear marking compound & stay with it till you get the correct patern. This is more important then the actual backlash.

Buy an extra inner pinion bearing. Take a die grinder and gring the ID so it just slides over the pinion.
You set pinion depth with the shims under the pinion head and getting that bearing pressed on and of with a shim change usualy trashes the bearing. This way you get your depth set and then press on the good bearing. Start with all the old shims in the same places and work from there. You'll be supprised how close it will be. If the inner pinion bearing cup has spun you may have to get some locktite bearing mount to lock it on place. Don't paint the teeth like your painting a house. Use light coats otherwise it just makes a mess and a hard to read pattern. You may not get it exact but get it as close as possible. The pic attached is a workable pattern |
